Dune: the TV series finds its protagonists

Well before that Dunes premiered in theaters (which it eventually did in the fall of 2021), Warner Bros. and HBO have announced the development of a prequel television series for the project. It’s been a long time since we last heard of the project but now the Dune prequel TV series has found its main stars.

The actresses chosen for the two key roles

Variety reports that Emily Watson And Shirley Henderson they will play the two key roles in what is called Dune: The Sisterhood. The latter is set 10 millennia before the events of the film Dune. Here’s how they describe their roles: “Watson will play Valya Harkonnen and Henderson will play Tula Harkonnen. The character descriptions say that the two sisters “came to power in the Sisterhood, a secret organization of women who will become the Bene Gesserit.”

Initially, we heard that Jon Spaihts, who co-wrote the film Dune, was working on this spin-off. He later withdrew from the project to work on a potential sequel to Dune: Part Two based on the Frank Herbert film. Now the show is supervised by producer Diane Ademu-John. Johan Renck of Chernobyl will direct the first episode.

The release date of Dune: Part Two

Meanwhile, Dune: Part Two, which adapts the second half of Herbert’s original Dune novel, is in production and is slated for release on November 17, 2023. Timothée Chalamet, Rebecca Ferguson, Zendaya, Stellan Skarsgård, Dave Bautista and Josh Brolin are all confirmed for the return of the new film. Florence Pugh, Christopher Walken, Léa Seydoux and Austin Butler have also been added to the project.

Before the release of Dunes, audiences were hoping the first entry was successful enough to justify a sequel. Meanwhile, writer Jon Spaihts recently hinted that Villeneuve may actually end up making a whole trilogy of films. “Dune Messiah is the next book, and it is one of three books with Dune, Dune Messiah and Children of Dune, covering the lives of the characters we meet in the first novel.”Spaihts explained to The Playlist earlier this year. “After that, there is a giant leap in time and the series becomes more and more weird and epic as it goes on. But Dune Messiah picks up years after Dune closed, and yes, Denis also talked seriously about making that movie. “
