Elvis, Austin Butler thanks ex-girlfriend Vanessa Hudgens: ‘She believed in me’

Austin Butler he had been much criticized on social media for having referred to his ex-girlfriend Vanessa Hudgens with the term ‘friend’, in relation to an episode that spurred him to try in every way to play Elvis Presley in Baz Luhrmann’s film. In another interview with the LA Times, Butler talked about it in other terms.

The actor received his first Oscar nomination; here are all the nominations for the 2023 Academy Awards.

Butler acknowledged the importance of Hudgens in the success achieved thanks to the film:“I was with my partner at the time. We’ve been together for so long and she had this moment of clairvoyance and so I really owe her a lot for believing in me”.

After Golden Globe winButler had been criticized for calling Hudgens ‘a friend’, while not naming her name:“I was looking at the Christmas lights and an Elvis song came on the radio. My friend and I were humming it until she looked at me and said ‘You must play Elvis'”.

Fans immediately understood that the alleged friend in question was Vanessa Hudgens because the former High School Musical star had told that anecdote on TV:“Last December we were in the car listening to Christmas carols when an Elvis Presley song started playing. Austin had just dyed his hair black and watching him sing along I said ‘Piccolo you must play Elvis I don’t know how but I’m serious ‘. In January he was singing on the piano and I told him the same thing again. We didn’t know how to get the rights and how to move but… he had to play Elvis”.
