Filming is underway on Marvel Studios’ Secret Invasion, the Disney+ spy thriller starring Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson). Described by the studio as a crossover event series set within the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the cast features a who’s-who that includes shapeshifting Skrull Talos (Ben Mendelsohn), former high-level SHIELD agent Maria Hill (Cobie Smulders) , CIA agent Everett Ross (Martin Freeman) and War Machine (Don Cheadle). After debuting the first footage at San Diego Comic-Con in July — and releasing the Secret Invasion trailer online during September’s D23 Expo — the spy series is undergoing a standard reshoot.
Photos captured from the London set show Game of Thrones actress Emilia Clarke (in an undisclosed role) filming scenes inside a Russian meat truck.
Set after the events of 2019’s Captain Marvel and Spider-Man: Far From Home – which ended with the revelation that the real Fury was off-world with the Skrulls – Secret Invasion sees the slant-eyed super-spy return to the Earth after years of absence. Fury is reunited with Hill and Talos with a warning about a secret invasion: a faction of shape-shifting aliens has been infiltrating Earth for years, led by the rebel Gravik (Kingsley Ben-Adir).
Secret Invasion: the words of Emilia Clarke
“I think what [la Marvel] it’s doing right now both so exciting and so beautiful, and so cutting edge. I feel like they’re the Apple of this world,” Clarke told ComicBook about joining the Avengers world. “Becoming a part of that family is like, ‘Oh my God, I’m in the cool kid group.’ It’s a very cool thing.’ Honestly speaking, the people who are making it are the ones who made me want to actually do it. I think everyone’s heart and head are in the right place.”
Jackson previously returned for a series of reshoots of Secret Invasion and The Marvels, the Captain Marvel sequel connected to director Nia DaCosta which hits theaters in 2023.
