What do you want to tell her? Even her majesty Anna Wintour, sworn enemy of all-black looks, would change her mind in front of a Zendaya in Maison Valentino: one of the most successful fashion-celebrity combos ever, which we never get tired of admiring.
Worse: Julia Garner
Part wicked witch, part evil reverend with a plateau risking ankle breakage: Julia Garner in Gucci is not convincing, perhaps because of that rhomboidal porthole on her stomach that loudly calls for a supply of Imodium in her purse.
Better: Amanda Seyfried
A real diva. Here’s what Amanda Seyfried was in Armani Privé: prize for her interpretation in The Dropout, but also to the precious, simple and chic style. Someone else would surely have turned it into a disaster; she takes away instead of adding, and wins hands down.
Worse: Sarah Paulson
A sandwich woman? A napkin ring? Whatever Sarah Paulson looks like in Louis Vuitton, the result is unquestionable: a disaster.
Better: Peter Sarsgaard and Maggie Gyllenhaal
Darling, get dressed, let’s go out. One of the most magnificently intelligent couples in Hollywood gives us a couple outfit lesson to learn by heart: both in Dior, both – as they say in those parts – stunning.
Worse: Kerry Washington
A headache look, that of Kerry Washington in Elie Saab. Giant flowers, a wedding train, a spring onion on her head like «I just got out of the shower» and, horror horror, the detail that we can neither explain nor digest: the black stockings.
Better: Lily James
Better, but with reservations: Lily James’ Versace dress is gorgeous, yes, but our Pamela Anderson desperately needs a change of makeup artist. Maybe finding someone not so fanatical about bronzers and palettes ton sur ton.
Worse: Elle Fanning
As they say, it happens even in the best families, and this time it was the turn of the (usually) very elegant Elle Fanning, in a dress with a wedding train designed by Sharon Long, the costume designer of The Great. All wrong, from the dress to the hairstyle, passing through those somewhat hunched over poses of the series «if I straighten up and try to breathe, it’s a mess».
Better: Selena Gomez
A simple long white dress with halter neckline and micro-sequins by Celine: Selena dares by combining green details (earrings and nail polish) and gets a standing ovation.
Worse: Sydney Sweeney
Sydney, we love you so much, why are you doing this to us? It takes a lot to choose an ugly dress by Oscar de la Renta, yet you succeeded in this very difficult undertaking. Indeed, more than a dress it looks like a tent sewn on a bit roughly, with that sensation that it is about to burst. Bad bad.
