Who paid for dinners with Eurosceptics?
On Saturday, a congress of the extreme European right is to be held in Warsaw. “The Warsaw Summit” conference is a cross-party event, organized and financed by the Law and Justice party, said Radosław Fogiel, PiS vice-officer, in response to an entry from MP Michał Szczerba. “Why should we pay for this Putin agent’s dinner? What is the governmental function of this lady to finance the party by the prime minister? Why is PiS not paying for its dinners with Russian borrowers and Putin’s alliances?”
Asked whether PiS is also paying for dinner at the Palace on the Water in Łazienki, he replied that it was a dinner for all conference participants, and the official invitation had an emblem, because “Law and Justice is not ashamed of the Polish emblem”. Ultimately, however, he did not answer who was the host of the meeting – Mateusz Morawiecki as prime minister or vice-president of PiS.
At the invitation of Jarosław Kaczyński’s party, the event is still attended by 12 leaders of European conservative parties, incl. Marine Le Pen and Viktor Orban. Matteo Salvini from Italy will not come to Warsaw.
Kaczyński in 2017: We have as much in common with Le Pen as with Putin
Let us recall that in July this year Jarosław Kaczyński announced a joint declaration of European conservatives. It was signed, in addition to the PiS president, by Giorgia Meloni, the president of the Brothers of Italy, the head of the Spanish Vox party Santiago Abascala, the Hungarian prime minister and the head of Fidesz Viktor Orban, Matteo Salvini from the Northern League and Marine Le Pen, president of the French National Union.
All this happened despite the fact that in 2017 Jarosław Kaczyński stated:
All sorts of suggestions that we want ourselves or with Ms Le Pen, with whom we have as much in common as with Mr Putin, to lead Poland out of the EU, are simply fraud, manipulation and nothing more. They are abusive and I wanted to make it very clear. Anyone who uses such statements simply lies, manipulates, and misleads the public.
Conference on the future of the EU
On Friday, Mateusz Morawiecki also participated in a conference on the future of the European Union, which was held in Warsaw at the initiative of the Polish delegation of European Conservatives and Reformists. The Prime Minister emphasized that Poland made a very specific proposal to re-examine the legal architecture of the European Union. He indicated that this analysis should take place from three points of view: cultural and identity, economic and political and state.
Mateusz Morawiecki said that the euro area is not an optimal currency area. He stated that currently we are dealing with a collision of the political will of certain elites with the harsh economic reality, which may constitute an increasing obstacle in the further integration of the euro area and the European Union.
In his opinion, deepened integration towards institutional, monetary, financial, economic and investment integration, which is to take place only on the basis of theoretical assumptions, and at the same time goes against economic processes, is a way to nowhere. He added that the consequence of such integration will be a serious economic crisis.
The conference participants discussed the future of Europe and the reform of the European Union. A dozen or so experts from Poland and abroad participated in the discussion. Among them, among others former Minister of Foreign Affairs Jacek Czaputowicz, MEPs of Law and Justice Ryszard Legutko and Zdzisław Krasnodębski and Member of the Congress of Spanish Deputies, Professor Francisco Jose Contreras.
