In recent days, the first case of simultaneous infection with the influenza virus and SARS-CoV-2 has been confirmed in Israel. Today, Spanish authorities reported the first cases of flurons. There will be more and more such cases – predicts Dr. Karolina Krupa-Kotara from the Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics of the Faculty of Public Health in Bytom, Medical University of Silesia in Katowice.
The first case of influenza (known as fluron), a co-infection with the influenza virus and SARS-CoV-2, was reported in a woman who she was not vaccinated against the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus or the flu. The woman has recently had a baby, and her condition is good, she has no more serious symptoms and will soon be discharged home.
There are probably more similar cases, but they have not been diagnosed so far – believes Dr. Krupa-Kotara.
Recalls that both SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus and influenza virus infection have similar symptoms – both they infect the upper respiratory tract and cause breathing problems.
The only sure and reliable way to distinguish them are diagnostic tests, all other assumptions will not give a definite answer.
It is therefore worth knowing all the possible symptoms of infection with a new coronavirus mutation, so that if we feel that we could be infected with it, contact a primary health care physician who will refer us to a diagnostic test in order to be able to isolate ourselves from contact with people until the result is known. – adds Dr. Karolina Krupa-Kotara.
In Poland, the peak incidence of influenza usually falls in February and March.
The biggest concern, however, is currently the Omikron variant of the coronavirus, which has a high infectivity.
It is increasingly common in Europe, but the Delta is still the dominant variant in this area. This raises further concerns among researchers when the two variants considered by the WHO as the most dangerous met in one area – indicates the expert.
The Spanish medical authorities have confirmed that the first cases of fluron have appeared on its territory. According to the health ministry atypical infection concerns patients from Catalonia.
The Spanish medical services have not specified how many patients are affected by flurons.
According to the Telemadrid station in Catalonia, only “a few cases” of simultaneous infection with the SARS-CoV-2 virus and the flu have been confirmed.
Catalan health authorities, confirming the appearance of flurons, wrote that her incidence is “low”.
“These cases are not serious and do not require any special medical treatment,” explained Gemma Craywinckel from the Catalan health service.
Coronavirus infections remain high in Catalonia. On Monday, the daily number of infections amounted to nearly 7.5 thousand. During the last 24 hours, no deaths have been reported among patients with Covid-19.
