Hamilton and his team tried to protest, explaining that race director Michael Masi did not correctly apply the safety car rules and did not allow duplicate drivers to overtake the full rate.

The BBC now reports that Lewis Hamilton wants to see the results of the FIA investigation regarding the last race of last season. Without it, he will not make a decision on whether he will start the first race in 2022.

However, the FIA advises that the investigation is not over yet and will not be answering questions. The new president, Mohammed Ben Sulay, has already contacted Hamilton and said he understood the British position.

The BBC said Mercedes had withdrawn its appeal due to reaching an agreement with the FIA. According to journalists, Masi’s future was thus put into question. Mercedes, however, denies this turn of events.

The first race of the new season will take place on March 20 in Bahrain.
