Once again Facebook would have violated the GDPR rules, but this time the fine would be really substantial: the details.
According to the most recent reports, the Irish Data Protection Commission would be ready to inflict a maxi fine on Facebook, for violation of some European rules sanctioned by the recent GDPR. Let’s see the information currently available, while we await official confirmation from the competent bodies.
Perhaps for the first time in many years, the maxi fine arriving at Facebook would be proportional to the economic possibilities of the company: about 4% of Facebook’s global turnover, or 2 billion dollars(million-plus, million less). We do not yet know what points of the GDPR have been violated by Facebook, but the fine should be made official as soon as possible.
It is worth mentioning that the ongoing investigation and the draft relative to the final decision will be brought to the attention of the other European authorities as well, given that the GDPR was a document produced by the entire community. This story could, therefore, represent an important precedent.
