Since his high-profile trial with Amber Heard, Johnny Depp is at a career twist. That is why it will not return either in the new “Fantastic Beasts” or, most likely, in the movie “Pirates of the Caribbean 6”. Fans of the series have made it clear what they think about it.
Johnny Depp’s first triumph in his court battle against Amber Heard last week, but otherwise is experiencing one of the toughest moments of his career. After divorcing the star of “Aquamana” and starting a public battle with her, he became one of the greatest persona non grata in Hollywood. In the movie “Fantastic Beasts 3” he will be replaced by Mads Mikkelsen, and a possible return to the series “Pirates of the Caribbean” was definitely blocked by Disney. It even got to the point that a kind of ban fell even on already completed productions with his participation.
Director Andrew Levitas sent an open letter to MGM and the media some time ago asking for his film “Minamata” to be “released”. All because the studio does not want to promote the title with Johnny Depp in the lead role and has not even set a release date for him for months. It appears that at least one very sizeable group is vehemently opposed to destroying Depp’s career. It’s about fans of “Pirates of the Caribbean” who turned the comment section under the alleged teaser of the 6th part into a rally for the American.
The movie “Pirates of Caribbean 6: Rise from Dead” does not exist. However, Internet users were fooled.
The concept teaser hit YouTube at the end of February, but only in recent weeks has it started to be promoted there, thanks to which the number of its views has already exceeded 4 million. Some viewers believed in the truthfulness of the material and immediately started commenting. Virtually every reaction to the video mentions Johnny Depp and calls for his return. Anyway, even those recipients who sensed the teaser falsity decided to use this moment to support the actor.
You can, of course, laugh at the naivety of Internet users, but if I were to be Disney, I would take the situation very seriously. It is clearly visible that fans of “Pirates of the Caribbean” cannot imagine the next parts without Depp. The future of the brand is currently uncertain. A year ago, there was a lot of talk about a soft reboot with Margot Robbie in the lead role, but there has been a long silence about the project in the media. It looks a bit like Disney wants to focus on “Expedition to the Jungle” and it is this production based on the Disneyland ride to promote the new “Pirates of the Caribbean”. It is difficult to say whether it will succeed. However, any reboot of the previous hit without Johnny Depp seems automatically doomed to failure.
