Flamengo beat Palmeiras in penalty shootout to win the U-20 Brasileirão for the second time

Flamengo is a two-time champion of Brazilian U-20 Championship! After a 0-0 draw in normal times, the Red and Black team won. Palm tree 3-2 on penalties.

The Rio club, which has enjoyed its best season in this competition, will this Thursday (7th) host Volta Redonda-RJ in a one-game duel at the Laurino Oliveira Stadium.

This is the second time that both teams have decided on the title. Fla also won in 2019, earning the tournament’s first trophy. The Albiverde club has won this tournament twice (2018 and 2022).

Last year, Palmeiras defeated Flamengo on penalties in the U20 Copa do Brasil final.

To decide the Brazilian championship, each club appointed young players who had already played in professional teams.

The first half was quite busy with both teams creating several chances. Palmeiras’ goalkeeper Kake and Flamengo’s Diogo were the only players to highlight the match with important saves.

The second half was even more slushy, but the home side applied even more pressure in the final minutes. However, the score ended in a draw, and the duel went to penalties.

With maximum penalties, Palmeiras had Kevin and Turris scoring, while Flamengo had goals from Diegao, Ryan Lucas and Pettersson.

Alan, Ian (who hit the controversial “paradinha” which was banned from 2011) and David Cowan were wasted for Alviverde. Meanwhile, Laurent made a mistake against Mengao.
