ALL NEW – At the Ford Pro stand, the new division dedicated to commercial vehicles and related mobility solutions, at the IAA in Hanover the spotlight is on the second generation of the Ford Transit Custom, which will be available in 100% electric, plug-in hybrid and turbodiesel variants. The new Transit Custom will be built by Ford Otosan at the state-of-the-art plant based in Turkey. Deliveries to customers of the Transit Custom with EcoBlue engine will begin in the middle of 2023while other variants will be available from the end of the year.
ELECTRIC BUT ALSO PLUG-IN – The Ford Pro Vehicles exhibition in Hanover is led by Ford E-Transit Custom 100% electric. Equipped with next-generation battery technology enabling a range of 380km and a fast charging capacity of 125kW, the van offers highly competitive performance for a wide range of customer needs. As part of the new Transit Custom range, customers can also choose a new one plug-in hybrid version (PHEV) for applications where greater flexibility is required: purely electric driving capability for city center work and petrol fueling for motorway or suburban journeys. The new powertrain, essentially the same as the Kuga PHEV, combines a 2.5-liter Atkinson cycle petrol engine with a (usable) 11.8 kWh battery to deliver a purely electric driving range of up to 57km and 2.3 kW of power to use or recharge tools and equipment on construction sites thanks to the ProPower Onboard.
AUTOMATIC AND 4X4 – The Ford Transit Custom with heat engine is equipped with the latest generation of Ford EcoBlue turbodiesel engines with powers of 110, 136, 150 or 170 hp. The 6-speed manual transmission is available in conjunction with an optional mechanical limited slip differential for added traction. In addition, a automatic gearbox 8-speed high efficiency, offering a capacity of towing maximum of 2,500 kg and is available in combination with a new system four-wheel drive, for the first time on Transit Custom. Designed from the ground up to offer performance and load capacity, the new Transit Custom also features a wide range of solutions for customers to improve their productivity, such as the Mobile Office option with the innovative tilting steering wheel that becomes a practical surface of ‘support.
BODYWORKS, FORMATS AND EQUIPMENT – The main features of the Ford Transit Custom include a completely new vehicle architecture with lower cargo bed height, overall height of less than 2 meters and independent rear suspension, an infotainment and connectivity system based on a standard 5G modem and 13-inch SYNC 4 touchscreen and on a complete range that includes four sizes (2 lengths and 2 heights) and three body variants (van, double cab van and Combi) and at least five trim levels (Trend, Limited, Active, Trail and Sport). The Combi models will be offered for the first time in Limited and Trail versions which represent the top of the range and are characterized by a significantly improved refinement and emphasis on passenger comfort.
