Four good days: painful story with Glenn Close and Mila Kunis that instills courage

The proposal of Sky Cinema Due (and also of NOW) for Saturday evening March 19starting from 9.15 pmis the first-run drama film Four good daysdirected in 2020 by Rodrigo García who also edited the screenplay starting from an article by the journalist, e Pulitzer PrizeEli Saslow (How’s Amanda? A story of truth, lies and an American addiction) published on Washington Post in 2016.

The film is running for the 94th edition of Academy Awards (to be held on March 27 next) in the category dedicated to Best Original Song with the song Somehow You Do performed by the country singer Reba McEntire and written by the author Diane Warrennow in its 13th Oscar nomination (last year it was in contention with I do (Seen) performed by Laura Pausini) but still waiting to be awarded the coveted statuette for the first time.

One day 31-year-old Molly (Mila Kunis) knocks on his mother Deb’s door (Glenn Close) who, about a year earlier, had driven her away from home.
Deb has a hard time recognizing her transfigured daughter after a decade of heroin addiction.

The young woman returned to ask for help and to put an end, thanks to maternal support, to this difficult condition. At first reluctant to give her another chance, later, Deb accepts and takes her daughter to a doctor who advises her to spend a period of four days abstinent from substances and drugs so that, once passed, she can then begin a real path of detoxification.

During those days Molly has the opportunity to tell her mother about her past, to see her ex Sean (Joshua Leonard) and their children, to talk about her addiction in a school, to reveal the details of a secret pregnancy.

However, when for a bureaucratic matter she is told that her access to treatment must be postponed for a few days, the woman decides to run away with Sean, throwing Deb into anguish for the umpteenth time …

The powerful performances of Glenn Close and Mila Kunis enrich this touching and unpredictable story of pain that aims to instill courage in those facing the disease and the path of treatment, in the hope of achieving full and conscious physical and social rehabilitation.
