Remote work in companies, closing discos for four weeks and the obligation to wear masks in schools – such restrictions were introduced by the French government on Monday. The reason is the rise in coronavirus infections and concerns about the Omikron variant.

Omicron, which is increasingly detected in EU countries, is causing more and more concern throughout Europe. The extremely contagious and dangerous strain of the SARS-CoV-2 virus probably comes from South Africa. The latest restrictions on Monday announced the French government.

Vaccinations of children aged 5-11 from outside of vulnerable groups will be initiated after consultation with scientists, Castex informed. Children will not be vaccinated, said Minister of Health Olivier Veran, who was present at the conference. He reported that 80 children are currently hospitalized in the country, including 15 – in intensive care units. Castex announced the lifting of the obligation to register booster doses of COVID-19 vaccines for people over 65 years of age.

In addition, the prime minister recommended companies to return to remote work. – All companies that can, should allow their employees two to three days a week to work remotely. Public officials will work remotely for up to three days, said Castex. When it comes to festive events and feasts, including trips and seminars, the head of government recommended that they be abandoned. “Discos will be closed for four weeks in France from Friday,” said Castex.

In schools, the prime minister announced the introduction of a sanitary protocol, the so-called 3rd degree, which means, among others stricter obligation to wear masks also during sports activities and in open spaces, and not only during lessons and in closed spaces, as before. Classes will be closed after three coronavirus cases in the same class are identified.

The prime minister announced tightening the control of sanitary passports and ruled out eating in public places where this document is not controlled. However, Castex ruled out the introduction of a nationwide lockdown and a curfew.
