The recordings in Portugal of the new film in the “Furious Speed” saga are helping the economy of cities and towns along the A24 to flourish.
A part of the film recordings “Furious Speed 10” will be shot in Portugal. Mountain roads and the IP5, in Viseu, should be the scene of some of the scenes that will pass through the north and center of the country, but also through Lisbon.
Some mountain roads will be the scene of the recordings, as well as the IP5, in the area of Penoita, in Vouzela, in the district of Viseu. Much of the logistics should be installed in Vouzela.
The cities and towns of the A24 axis, between Viseu and Vila Pouca de Aguiarare benefiting economically from the production of the film, reports Jornal de Notícias.
Andreia Rodrigues, president of the Centro Portugal Film Commission, tells JN that she is “guaranteed that the scenes that will appear in ‘Furious Velocity 10’ will be identified as having been recorded in Portugal”.
José Loureiro, president of the delegation of the Association of Hotels, Restaurants and Similar Services of Portugal, highlights hotel bookingswhere actors, technicians, catering services and the like are hosted.
There are even “local trailer, catering, cleaning companies, among others, that are already contracted”, highlighted the mayor of Vila Real, Rui Santos, quoted by JN.
The beginning of the recordings in Douro coincides with the time when Vila Real receives the World Cup of Touring Cars. According to the president of Turismo do Porto e Norte, Luís Pedro Martins, this will help to “Mobilize the economy even more in a territory far from the Porto Metropolitan Area”.
The truth is that the big stars of the production, like Vin Diesel, Jason Momoa, Charlize Theron or Daniela Melchior are not yet in Portugal and will only be here for “two or three days”, says Andreia Rodrigues.
Some sections of the A24 will be closed for several days, in June and July, during the filming of the film. Several sections will be closed between 6 am and 10 pm. To compensate road users for the inconvenience, tolls will be free on those days.
Portugal has been increasingly chosen as the setting for recordings of several Hollywood productions, which promise to bring in millions of euros.
The famous ‘Furious Speed’ saga is not an unprecedented example of recordings in Portugal. ‘La Casa de Papel’, ‘Color Out of Space’, ‘Damsel’ and ‘House of the Dragon’ — the prequel to the ‘Game of Thrones’ series — these are just a few recent cases.
The Portugal Film Commission (PFC) says that the trend is “growing”and the film industry “may bring millions of euros” to Portugal in the coming years. For now, there are no estimates of values.
