Gal Gadot against a sexualized scene on Wonder Woman in Justice League

If a sequel to Gal Gadot’s adventures with Wonder Woman remains uncertain, a case during the Justice League with Joss Whedon resurfaced. The actress would have indeed refused to shoot a sexualized scene with Ezra Miller (Flash) in the film. The latter was not only a commercial failure, but the director also received several criticisms from the team.

A sex scene with Gal Gadot and Ezra Miller

To get back to the context, Justice League was DC’s response to the great success of avengers at Marvel. Zack Snyder (Man of Steel, 300) was initially responsible for the project. The director, however, had to step aside in the middle of his work because of a family tragedy. So it’s Joss Whedon (Avengers, Avengers Age of Ultron) who took over the reins.

A particular scene will nevertheless have caused controversy on the film. Barry Allen, played by Ezra Miller, was indeed to fall on Wonder Woman, the character of Gal Gadot. The scene would have had a sexual connotation according to the actress, something she did not want for Diana Prince (Wonder Woman). Joss Whedon had to use his double to shoot this part.

By using a stunt double, Wonder Woman’s face is not seen in the scene. This helped hide the fact that it was not Gal Gadot. This decision ended up tainting even more the image sent by the character in the Justice League of Whedon. To make the reference, a Twitter user mentioned that the director shot a similar scene in Avengers: Age of Ultron with Bruce Banner (Mark Ruffalo) and Natasha Romanoff (Scarlett Johansson).

Revelations about Joss Whedon’s Justice League

There Justice League by Joss Whedon in 2017 barely managed to hit the $600 million mark at the box office. With its 657.9 million dollars, the film is a failure for Warner Bros. The allocated budget was around 300 million dollars, and the studio expected to exceed the billion dollars.

In addition to this failure, Joss Whedon also received criticism from the film crew. Ray Fisher, the actor playing Cyborg, tweeted about the director’s rude and abusive attitude. Whedon was also quick to criticize Snyder’s version, to the point of embarrassing the team members. The latter were the ones who had worked with Snyder from the beginning of the project to obtain this “version” rejected by Whedon.

The answer that the Snyder version is better will come in 2021 with Justice League The Snyder Cut. The nearly four-hour-plus film not only thrilled fans, but also found success on HBO Max. For her part, no one knows if Gal Gadot will return as Wonder Woman or not. The project of a third film still remains non-existent at the time of writing these lines.
