A Cliff Bleszinski apparently liked very much the idea of focusing Gears 5 on a female lead, as the game designer clearly stated on Twitter.
Gears 5 represents a rather breaking chapter with the tradition of the series for different elements and one of these is the choice of the protagonist, who for the first time is a woman, which has also aroused the joy of one of the original creators of Gears of War, or Cliff Bleszinski.
“I will not lie, seeing a woman on the cover of a Gears chapter makes me happy. I have been told for decades that games with female protagonists do not sell,” Bleszinski said on Twitter. “Call me SJW if you want, I simply like to see women kicking asses, I’ve always liked them and I’ll always like them.”
It is not the first time that a woman appears on a cover of a chapter of the series, but it is, in fact, the first time that a woman is the absolute protagonist of a chapter, given that Gears 5 is all about Kait, a character that is particularly complex and profound within the history of the series.
As for Cliff Bleszinski, after the failure of LawBreaker and Boss Key Studio, he retired from the world of video game development but recently reported that he had some interesting ideas again.
Not gonna lie, seeing a woman on the cover of a Gears game makes me happy. I was told for decades "games with female leads don't sell."
Call me a SJW if you want, I just like seeing women kick butt, always have, always will.
