GeForce RTX 2060 card with 12 GB VRAM – crazy idea of the Russian modder

The premiere of the new GeForce RTX 2060 graphics card is approaching with greater and greater steps. The Russian modder, however, did not want to wait for Nvidia’s move, so he built such a model at home.

GeForce RTX 2060 debuted in a version with 6 GB of GDDR6 192-bit memory, but, due to the crisis on the graphics card market, Nvidia plans to refresh the design, this time with a double dose of VRAM.

The Russian modder VIK-on (you can associate it with previous graphics card modifications – eg GeForce RTX 2080 Ti or GeForce RTX 3070) apparently did not want to wait for the card’s premiere and … decided to build it at home.

For this purpose, he used the regular version of GeForce RTX 2060 (with 6 GB VRAM) and soldered the memory to larger systems. What came out of it? Check out the video below.

GeForce RTX 2060 with double the memory dose was correctly identified by the GPU-Z application. Modder, however, detected occasional black screen display problems (these can be solved by putting the card into efficient mode in the Nvidia control panel).

VIK-on also checked the card’s performance in the Unigine Superposition benchmark and in mining the Ethereum cryptocurrency, but there should be no surprise here – the additional video memory practically did not translate into an increase in performance (at least not in the tests used by the Russian modder).

Finally, it remains to be remembered that the official premiere of the GeForce RTX 2060 12 GB card is scheduled for the beginning of December. Details on availability are not yet known.
