Gerard Piqué is “suffering” amid Shakira’s split.
The 35-year-old football star recently announced that he and the hit ‘Hips Don’t Lie’ singer – with whom they have children Milan, 9, and Sasha, 7 – have split after 11 years together. Now, the president of his club, FC Barcelona, has asked fans to show sympathy for the player.
Joan Laporta says:
“Pique is suffering. As much as we think, we have in our imagination players with fame, money and everything we like, but they are people and Piqué is a great person. He is one of the captains, he is lucky, he has given a lot and he has to give us a lot.”

Laporta added: “And he went through an unpleasant situation, with children still very young and Piqué deserves the esteem and affection of the fans. Don’t pay attention to the news that try to paint him as a frivolous man, without feelings, and that everything escapes him. I am fortunate to have known him and treated him as a person. He is an extraordinary person who is suffering. And we have to help him. I will be the first to give him the love he deserves.”
Shakira and Gerard announced their split earlier this month.
The couple said in a joint statement: “We are sorry to confirm that we are separating. We ask for privacy at this time for the well-being of our children, who are our top priority. Thank you in advance for your understanding and respect.”
