Each year, the voices of journalists from around the world arouse considerable controversy. As many as 180 journalists vote, each one represents his country. They all have 16 points to distribute: six for the first player, four for the second, three for the third, two for the fourth and one for the fifth.

Poland has been represented for years by Maciej Iwański, whose order of elections was as follows: Lewandowski, Jorginho, Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo, Kjaer. Attackers Bayern Munich and PSG were in the vast majority of “Friday”, which resulted in their two first places in the poll. What does the top ten look like?

Messi won his seventh Golden Ball, while the Pole had to settle for second place. Thanks to the latest issue of the prestigious “France Football” monthly, which is behind the decades-long tradition of awarding players with awards, we know that Lewandowski was first, second, and who did not make it to the podium or even in the top five.

The 33-year-old deserved the highest place on the podium according to 45 journalists. Among them is a Pole, Maciej Iwański, as well as, inter alia, the editor-in-chief of “France Fotball” Pascal Ferre or Karl-Heinz Wild from the German “Kicker”. Lewandowski definitely won in Europe – he scored 198 points with 151 Messi’s eyes. However, he lost outside the Old Continent, where the legend of Barcelona scored 462 points, and the Pole – 382. Once again (or the last one?) The magic of the name “La Pulgi” worked, its world recognition, which beats the best shooter in the history of the White and Reds. The Pole’s profiles on Facebook and Instagram are followed by a total of slightly over 45 million people. In the case of Messi, it is … over 380 million.

26 journalists did not find a place for Lewandowski in the “five”. Absurdities of the Golden Ball vote

However, the first “Fives”, in which the Bayern Munich striker and sometimes PSG stars are missing, are especially interesting. This is how journalists from as many as 26 countries voted: Saudi Arabia, Belize, Argentina, Bahrain, Greece, Grenada, Guatemala, Cayman Islands, Morocco, Kyrgyzstan, Liechtenstein, Jordan, Kazakhstan, North Macedonia, Oman, Mozambique, Uzbekistan, Palestine, Saint Kitts and Nevis , Sudan, Turkmenistan, Yemen, Suriname, Brazil, Cameroon and Butan. In the last three cases, journalists did not find a place among their choices for either Lewandowski or Messi.

Some statements are controversial to say the least. Cleber Machado from Brazil voted in turn for De Bruyne, Jorginho, Mbappe, Lukaku and Neymar. Cameroonian Emmanuel Gustave Samnick relied on Mbappe, Salah, De Bruyne, Donnarumma and Cristiano Ronaldo. Passang Norbu from Butan appreciated Salah, Kante, Haaland, Foden and Benzema, and for Grigory Rtveladze from Uzbekistan, Mbappe, Mount, Messi, Chiellini and De Bruyne performed better than “Lewa”. It is the last “five” that are candidates for the strangest vote in the poll of 2021.
