GTA 5 is about to break another seemingly impossible sales record, but Red Dead Redemption 2 is also doing well. We tell you the details in this description!
GTA 5 will soon pass the astonishing milestone of 200 million copies sold. Take-Two revealed in its latest financial results that the game has sold 195 million copies to date, including more than 5 million in the past three months. If this continues, the game will hit the 200 million mark before summer.
As a result, “GTA 5” will sell about 100 million copies more than “Tetris”, trailing only “Minecraft” which has sold about 300 million copies. Sales of the game skyrocketed upon release, but it was also incredibly profitable for its creators thanks to its GTA Online service and Shark Cards as in-game currency.
To date, the entire “GTA” series of games has sold 420 million copies, which means that “GTA 5” accounts for almost half of the total sales. Furthermore, it has been the best-selling title of the past 10 years in the United States, both in terms of sales and revenue. The key to this is its multiple releases: in 2013 for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, the following year for the PS4 and Xbox One, then for PC, and finally in 2022 for the current generation of consoles.
On the other hand, Red Dead Redemption 2, from the same creator, is the second best-selling game in the United States since its launch six years ago. The game has sold an incredible 61 million copies, a number that pales in comparison to GTA 5 but is significantly higher than Red Dead Redemption 1’s 27 million copies.
The company’s future lies in the long-awaited GTA 6. The first trailer for the game was released in December, and they told us that the game will be coming to PlayStation 5 and Xbox in 2025.
