Next week, Wednesday September 6, spectators will be able to find Camille Cottin in (the excellent) Tony with family or discover the thriller Visions by Yann Gozlan (Black Box), with Diane Kruger – who finally finds the French cinema. Two feature films that announce a promising return to school in 2023 and great weeks to come in dark rooms.

Long-awaited returns
The next few months of 2023 will be marked in particular by the return of great filmmakers who have been discreet, to say the least, in recent years. This is how Michel Gondry, whose last film Microbe and Diesel dates back to 2015, will return to theaters with the highly anticipated The Solution Book. A feature film inspired by the life of Gondry and carried by one of the nuggets of French cinema: Pierre Niney. Theatrical release: September 13.
2023 will also mark the return of Catherine Breillat after 10 years of absence, with Last summer (September 13), a disturbing film about incest, with Léa Drucker, which caused a scandal at Cannes. Then we wait impatiently to discover The Boy and the Heron, the latest animated nugget from the great Hayao Miyazaki, in theaters November 1. A feature film that was a hit in Japan despite a unique promotional campaign, without image or trailer.
Sacred films at Cannes 2023
Between now and the end of the year, spectators will also be able to see on the big screen several sacred films at the last Cannes festival. As Dead leaves by Aki Kaurismäki, Jury Prize (in theaters September 20), The Passion of Dodin Bouffant (November 15), winner of the Directing Prize for Tran Anh Hung – and which marks the reunion of Juliette Binoche and Benoît Magimel -, Perfect Days by Wim Wenders (November 29), who received the Best Actor Award for Koji Yakusho, or even Monster by Hirokazu Kore-Eda, Screenplay Award (December 27). Will they experience the same success in theaters as the Palme d’or of this 76th edition, Anatomy of a fall by Justine Triet? To be continued.

The Anglo-Saxon sizes at the rendezvous
If David Fincher will release his highly anticipated The Killer on Netflix (November 10), other great Anglo-Saxon directors have not abandoned the dark rooms. On the program by the end of the year: Stroke of luckthe Woody Allen film produced and shot in France (September 27), Killers of the Flower Moon by Martin Scorsese with Leonardo DiCaprio and Robert de Niro (October 18), The Old Oak by Ken Loach (October 25) or even Napoleon by Ridley Scott starring Joaquin Phoenix (November 22).
French cinema in good shape
French cinema also promises some very nice events in the coming weeks. Thomas Lilti (Hippocrates) will leave the medical world for that of education, with the already highly anticipated A serious job, worn by Louise Bourgoin, in theaters on September 13. Another film that is already making a lot of noise? The Animal Kingdom by Thomas Cailley, with Romain Duris and Adèle Exarchopoulos (October 4).
Also note the releases ofA difficult year (October 18), the new film from the directors ofUntouchablesEric Toledano and Olivier Nakache, but also political fables Second Round, signed Albert Dupontel and worn by Cécile de France (October 25). The film The Time to Love by Katell Quillévéré with Vincent Lacoste and Anaïs Demoustier, which has just been crowned at the Angoulême festival, will be released on November 29. Finally Ladjy, acclaimed by the public and the critics for Wretched in 2019, will release his new film, Building 5, on December 6th. Tantalizing biopics
The end of 2023 will also be placed under the sign of biopics. Spectators will thus be able to find Catherine Deneuve in the skin of Bernadette Chirac, in an offbeat comedy by Léa Domenach (Bernadette, October 4). In a more serious tone, FLO, in theaters on November 1, will tell the story of the extraordinary destiny of navigator Florence Arthaud. Then on November 8, release of the film Abbé Pierre, a life of struggleworn by Benjamin Lavernhe, which will pay homage to one of the greatest icons of our history.
