Here is the new version of the Samsung 980 PRO Heatsink drive

Samsung is one of the manufacturers that are at the forefront of the SSD segment while offering solid and cost-effective designs. The Korean technology giant has for us a new version of the popular drive based on the fastest PCI-Express 4.0 interface currently available.

Every enthusiast of computer equipment should be familiar with the proposals of semiconductor drives from Samsung, because Koreans have been operating in this segment for over a decade. Therefore, I do not need to convince anyone that they have extensive experience in this matter. Moreover, Samsung Electronics is one of the main memory manufacturers on the market, so they can optimize their own hardware even better, which offers really high performance.

Samsung 980 PRO in the heatsink version has been equipped with an additional, integrated heat sink, which will ensure even better and more stable disk operation, thanks to which the user will be able to work comfortably for many hours under full load.

Samsung 980 PRO aluminum heat sink covers almost the entire surface of the printed circuit board (PCB) – even from the bottom. In terms of technical specifications, we get a top data carrier. The disk is made in the M.2 2280 format, has been equipped with the NVM-Express 1.3c protocol controller, PCI-Express interface version 4.0, as well as 2 GB Cache memory based on DDR4 SDRAM chips.

The manufacturer did not reveal which controller the Samsung 980 PRO Heatsink drive uses, but it is most likely the flagship Phison E18. Nevertheless, the device is characterized by top transfers – even up to 7000 MB / s sequential read and a maximum of 5100 MB / s sequential write. An additional, massive heat sink not only gives the disk its appearance, but also will allow more stable and better operation during many hours of load, preventing the throttling effect, i.e. reducing the device’s efficiency in order to lower its temperature.

In addition, the Samsung 980 PRO Heatsink, despite the additional heat sink, is compatible with the Sony PlayStation 5 console, as well as with computers (laptops), where the 8.6 mm high heat sink will not be an obstacle. The device is now available for sale in two versions – with a capacity of 1 TB, for which we will have to pay 1099 zlotys and 2 TB which costs 1999 zlotys.
