How to beat Sheriff at his post? Real Madrid shows

Real Madrid approached the rematch against Sheriff Tiraspol very seriously. The Królewski group included a galaxy of stars. Ancelotti and his players wanted to take revenge for their defeat at Estadio Santiago Bernabeu. It was out of human decency – being an outside supporter – to cheer on Sheriff, just like the F1 driver, who got a flat tire during the race and then had to make up for lost time. In such a situation, you know very well that he is unlikely to be able to finish the race in points, but you keep your fingers crossed for him anyway.

Sheriff Tiraspol – Real Madrid: get out there and win

The match was exactly as expected. The hosts enjoyed little things. For example, moments where they could gain a few seconds by catching the ball and forcing the Kings to offend. The guests – as befits the favorites – took the initiative from the beginning of the match. Already in the first quarter of an hour, the ball from Karim Benzema’s shot fluttered in the net, but the goal was canceled due to an offside position. Real Madrid’s attacks grew stronger by the minute, but Carlo Ancelotti was not calm. He chewed the gums about three times faster than usual. The Italian’s jaw calmed down only when Real took the lead. After the foul on Casemiro, David Alaba took matters into his own hands. The Austrian blew a free kick. The ball on the way changed the flight path and confused the hosts’ goalkeeper.

Just before the whistle ending the first half, the Kings played a spectacular action. A quick exchange of passes around the sixteenth meter meant that Sheriff’s defenders lost Toni Kroos from the radars. The German received a pass from Rodrygo and scored on goal. The ball bounced off the crossbar, went over the line, and was back on the playing court. The goal-line system told Szymon Marciniak that he should accept the goal and he did so.

Sheriff Tiraspol – Real Madrid: mission will accomplish

In the second half of his hit, Karim Benzema was hit. The French took advantage of the space left by Sheriff’s defenders right in front of the penalty area and carried out the sentence in cold blood. A goal of three to zero deprived the hosts of illusions, but surprisingly they started to play bolder, or actually they stopped just defending themselves. They forced Thibaut Courtois to make a few interventions, but he kept his job clean and kept a clean sheet.

And Real? Well. He didn’t have to try too much. He did his thing. He drove to the Sheriff post. He took his gun, tied his hands, taped his face over his face, and locked him in a dark room. Then it was enough to play this match to the end, the more so that Carlo Ancelotti’s players will play against Sevilla on the weekend. The only thing that can worry is David Alaba’s injury, which he suffered a few minutes after the break, but it’s hard to say how long the break will last from the first goal scorer in this game.

Today’s Real Madrid win puts the Kings in the 1/8 finals of the Champions League. They are the leaders of Group D with twelve points, two more than Inter Milan, which they will face in the final round. The hosts may be half satisfied with today’s results. On the one hand, the defeat with Real deprived them of any chances to leave the group. On the other hand, the result of the Inter-Shakhtar match (2: 0) meant that the team from the Moldovan league is already sure of the third place in the group, and therefore also playing in the Europa League in spring 2022.
