On stage, on the magnificent island of Ischia, the “Baby” Isola d’Ischia Cup youth football festival in memory of Mario Bottiglieri. Mario Bottiglieri, with his great passion for football and especially for youth, was responsible for the youth sectors of the FIGC (Italian Football Federation) for the islands of Ischia and Procida for over twenty years. Many young athletes, who grew up in the nurseries of the island societies, achieved exciting results in that period, coming to play in the top flight. A name for everyone: the legendary number 1, Pino Taglialatela.
Often his passion took him away from Ischia to follow international matches or tournaments in which young island players took part, the many who played in the top football categories at that time. The Viareggio Tournament, an international tournament reserved for youth teams, was one of his fixed goals, and it was a great satisfaction when one of the protagonists of the 1975 tournament victory turned out to be one of his pupils, a young talented footballer born in the Forio youth academies, Salvatore Armidoro, who at the time was active in Naples. The youth event organized by the Mondo Sport Ischia Soccer School and by Calcio Eventi, and is aimed at the U11 category (athletes born in 2011). The sports clubs that have accepted the invitation of the president Gerardo Mattera are: Helsinki, Naples, Turin, Juve, Stocksund, Anacapri, Parma, Sport Hause, MondoSport. The tournament took place at the sports field of Casamicciola Terme in front of a large and warm audience. In the final the formations of Napoli and Helsinki faced each other. The Neapolitan team was the winner of the “First Mario Bottiglieri International Memorial” thanks to the victory by three goals to one.
