The Walking Dead, the end of one era and the beginning of another
After 11 seasons of extraordinary success, one of the most iconic stories of our time, about which mountains of words have been said and written, comes to an end. An ending which, however, is not an end. In the last 8 episodes of The Walking Dead (streaming every Monday until November 21) an even greater force is befalling every single member of each community. With the Commonwealth flags hoisted at Hilltop, Alexandria and Oceanside, there is no time for those on the road to strategize. It’s a race to stay alive and take out those who still live in the Commonwealth before Hornsby can take revenge on him. Who will make it? Fortunately, not a few, because starting next year a whole series of spin-offs will follow up on the stories of today’s and yesterday’s characters that we loved, including Rick Grimes!
The great return of Jeremy Allen White in The Bear
The former star of Shameless Jeremy Allen White is back with a series that will smile and touch you at the same time. The Bear, already available with all 8 episodes of the first season, tells the story of Carmen ‘Carmy’ Berzatto (Allen White), a young chef who returns home to Chicago to manage the family sandwich shop after a heartbreaking death in the family. Away from the comforts and life he was used to, Carmy has to deal with family problems, the harsh reality of running a small business, and dealing with hostile employees who are used to going their own way. But, day after day, he realizes that the work to run the restaurant goes hand in hand with what he is doing on himself, understanding that sometimes the family, even the most over the top of all, ends up choose it.
Candy: Death in Texas, the true crime series about a blood story that shocked America
Candy Montgomery is a housewife and mother who did everything right: she married a good man, had two children and settled in a nice house in the suburbs where she regularly attends the parish. But when the pressure of conformity builds and becomes unbearable inside her, transgression becomes a necessity of her and her behaviors crave for a bit of freedom, with deadly results. Candy: Death in Texascreated by Robin Veith And Nick Antosca (The Act), tells in 5 episodes one of the criminal stories that America remembers with the most horror, that of the Texan housewife (played by a surprising Jessica Biel) who in 1980 was convicted of the ax murder of her neighbor Betty Gore (Emmy nominee Melanie Lynskey). A shocking and well-written true crime series that can count on a stellar cast: in addition to Biel and Lynskey, they also star in the drama Timothy Simons, Pablo Schreiber And Raúl Esparza.
Rosaline, or Juliet & Romeo from another point of view
From 14 October Disney + offers a original movie which will lead you to have another point of view on one of the most famous tragedies of all time: Juliet & Romeo from William Shakespeare is seen by the eyes of … Rosaline. In Karen Maine’s film, formerly in the directing team of the Starstruck series, the all-encompassing love story of Juliet (Isabela Merced) e Romeo (Kyle Allen) is opposed by Rosaline (Kaitlyn Dever), formerly of Romeo’s: the girl does not resign herself to having lost her place in the heart of the young Montecchi, and will do everything to try to get him back in his arms, in spite of Capulets. Rosaline is a project born about ten years ago: the role eventually went to Kaitlyn Dever (these days in the room with Ticket to Paradise, even before in the series Dopesick also on Disney +) was originally meant for Keira Knightley, but in 2014 it seemed for a moment that Felicity Jones was also interested. The part of Juliet instead had been proposed to Hailee Steinfeld and Lily Collins.
So much was believed in this feature film, which is based on the novel “When You Were Mine” by Rebecca Serle, published in Italy with the title “Me, Romeo & Juliet“: the peculiarity of the adaptation is that it brings the story back to Shakespeare’s time, instead of re-setting it to the present day as it happens in the book! The result is funny and unsettling.
