India cracks down on drug trafficking; 9 detained, including three Mexicans

According to an official statement from the Regional Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), New Delhi, the drug syndicate operates in the National Capital Region, Rajasthan, Punjab and Dubai and its operatives include citizens Indians, Mexicans, Canadians and British.

During the operation, agents seized 15,000 106 kilograms of methamphetamine (ice), 9 kilograms of pseudoephedrine and other miscellaneous chemicals.



According to specific information, the Delhi regional unit of the Narcotics Control Bureau seized 2,946 kilograms of methamphetamine on January 17. Later, two parcel shippers from Jaipur were arrested during the investigation.

The arrested defendant admitted collecting methamphetamine from a drug dealer in Delhi and using forged documents to hide his identity to send the package to Australia.

After the matter came to light, the drug supplier was arrested from Rohini (Delhi), where another 12.16 kg of crystal meth was seized. Further investigation revealed that the drugs seized in Delhi originated from Punjab.

Through electronic and digital evidence, as well as technical fingerprints of the arrested accused, authorities identified the source of the contraband as Ludhiana and other international border areas in Punjab.

The seized contraband was manufactured in a clandestine laboratory in Ludhiana and transported via domestic mules from various locations in Punjab, including Amritsar, Faqwada and Mohali.

Based on the information received, NCB Delhi zone unit conducted multiple raids in Ludhiana, Mohali and Jalandhar. On January 29, 2024, two Indian nationals were arrested during a raid in Ludhiana and 4 kg of pseudoephedrine was recovered in the subsequent search.

Further investigation revealed that three Mexicans arrived in India in November 2023 on the instructions of their Mexican and British bosses. They stayed in Ludhiana to get help and raw materials from detained Indian citizens. The statement did not elaborate on whether they were part of any cartel.

Recycled chemicals and equipment include acetone (2000 200 liters), caustic soda (450kg), old maskgas stove, iodine (49 kg), flask, small iron drum with chemicals, distilled water (24 liters), plastic syringe and gauge.

Another associate was arrested from Ferozepur in Punjab during the ongoing investigation in Delhi. One of Mohali’s lawyers is considered a prime suspect in the case and is currently absconding.

The synthetic drug trade is exploding in Asia. According to United Nations data, more than 1 billion methamphetamine pills were confiscated in 2021.

In addition, the United States has exposed the Sinaloa Cartel’s ties to India in the production and transportation of fentanyl.
