Flu and COVID-19 Vaccinations – Recommendations

“Taking into account the seriousness of the epidemiological situation, the still unsatisfactory percentage of people vaccinated against COVID-19 and the very low level of vaccination against influenza in Poland, we recommend simultaneous (during one visit, in two different limbs) vaccinations against COVID-19 and against influenza with all vaccines available on the Polish market, for a given age group. Influenza vaccination can be carried out with both the first and subsequent doses of COVID-19 vaccines, “we read in the recently published recommendations of a team of recognized medical experts from the National Program for Combating Influenza on the simultaneous use of vaccines against influenza and COVID-19.

The authors of these recommendations – including Experienced clinicians as well as national consultants representing various medical fields argue that it is in the social and health interest to implement both vaccinations as soon as possible. – Both the flu and COVID-19 carry a risk of serious complications. In addition to the respiratory tract, both diseases affect many other organs. Both COVID-19 and the flu can lead to the development of: pneumonia, acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS), myocarditis, multi-organ failure (respiratory failure, renal failure, shock), exacerbation of chronic diseases (including lungs, heart, nervous system , diabetes), cardiovascular incidents as well as secondary bacterial infections – emphasizes Dr. n. med. Ernest Kuchar, president of the Polish Society of Wakcynology and one of the authors of the above-mentioned recommendations.

Unfortunately, some people may be simultaneously infected with the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus and the flu virus – the so-called co-infection, which can be particularly dangerous to health and life. That is why, as part of “blowing up”, experts urge the adoption of vaccines against both diseases as soon as possible. In the vast majority of people, these vaccinations significantly reduce the risk of a severe course of infection, as well as associated hospitalization and premature death.

From November 23, all adults can get vaccinated against influenza free of charge – informed the Ministry of Health. More information HERE: Flu vaccinations. The ministry introduces a new regulation

– We want as many Poles as possible to be willing and able to protect themselves against flu, which is why we are expanding the group that will be able to receive a free vaccine. We are also increasing the number of vaccines in pharmacies – said Adam Niedzielski.
