The hammer player is fourth in a splendid final: never a blue thrower so high at the World Cup. Eliminated the fifteenth century Scotti, Re and Mangione. In the Italian night final for Ponzio (weight), semifinal for Dosso (100)

The third day of the Eugene World Cup is underway. An extraordinary Sara Fantini ends the final of the hammer throw in fourth place (73.18): it is the best result ever for a blue of the throws at the World Championships. Edoardo Scotti (46.46), Davide Re (46.49) and Alice Mangione (52.72) have been eliminated. Awarded the title of 10000 meters: gold to the world record holder and world champion of Doha 2019, the Ugandan Joshua Cheptegei, at the end of a sprint of almost one lap (27: 27.43). In the session of the Italian night, final for Nick Ponzio in the weight and semifinal for Zaynab Dosso in the 100.

UPDATING

Women’s Hammer – Final – A wonderful Sara Jockeys Eugene’s journey to the world final ends in fourth place. An enormous result for the Emilian, whose hammer lands at 73.18, far from the bronze of the American Janee Kassanavoid (third with 74.86), but with full rights, and in the brightest part, in the iridescent firmament of the specialty. She title to the other American Brooke Andersen (78.96 at the last of the six launches of the competition), with the silver around the neck of Canadian Camryn Rogers (75.52). For Marinella Vaccari’s pupil, literally exploded this year thanks to a stability over 70 meters now iron, and the Italian record moved (several times) up to 75.77 (in Madrid, on June 18 last), it is of a sort of international consecration, 25 years yet to be fulfilled (it will happen in September of this year). And with the prospect, it should not be forgotten, to live more days as a protagonist in less than a month in Monaco, on the occasion of the European Championships.

Fantini’s race, really exciting, deserves to be told. The blue opens well, with a first launch measured at 71.45. She is on the podium until the second round, virtual bronze with 73.18 (followed by a 70.80 in the third round). Canadian Rogers, who took the lead with 75.52, brings her down one position. After the “cut” of the last four in the standings, she starts with the last three launches. The first, less than 70 meters, is canceled by the blue, the second, landed at 71.05, does not change the overall order. The only change occurs in the lead, where the American Brooke Andersen places 77.56 which is worth gold. There is only one launch to grab a dream podium, but the Emilian, already sure of fourth place, does not go beyond 71.04. Andersen stretched further, hitting a superlative 78.96 in the last launch of the competition, with the gold in the safe.

“It was wonderful, I’m really happy with how things went – says Fantini with emotion after the race -. Of course, since the appetite comes with eating, at a certain point I thought about the bronze medal, I believed it all the way, but that’s okay. I’m happy with the way I managed both the qualification and the final. The turning point? In the head, I am convinced, the head helps to overcome the limits of the body. I look forward to facing the European Championships, with the best enrollment measure “.

In the blue history of the Martello at the World Championships, Sara Fantini brings the Italian flag among the top eight for the fifth time. The last to succeed, as already said at the end of the qualification, was Silvia Salis in Daegu, in 2011, while the previous best placement was the seventh place of Clarissa Claretti in Osaka 2007. In the sector balance, it is worth noting how the Sara Fantini’s fourth place is the best result of an Italian thrower in the history of the World Championships (previously, Zahra Bani’s fifth place in the javelin in Helsinki 2005).

400 meters men – Heats – Little to do for Davide Re and Edoardo Scotti, who ended up far from the area useful for admission to the semifinals. The Italian record holder goes first on the track, and it is immediately clear that his 46.49 is not enough for the promotion. Quiet start, and the second part in full, as per the trademark, but without recovering more than one opponent. Opposite script for Edoardo Scotti, who gradually dies in the final, to close in 46.46. A single blast under 45 seconds, produced by surprise by Bayapo Ndori (Botswana), leaders of the round with 44.87. All the best (Van Niekerk 45.18; James 45.29; Norman 45.37) follow up with final straight stretches in absolute relaxation. After the race, both Re and Scotti talked about their positivity at Covid, suffered – without particular consequences, and resolved a few days ago – during the pre-world meeting in Florence.

400 women – Batteries – An empty passage, difficult to define otherwise. Alice Glutton, author of a very interesting season on the lap up to now (with the staff brought to 51.47), closes with an anonymous 52.77, unfortunately far from the affordable 52.18 useful to pass the round and earn the semifinal. Best time of the round, the 50.18 of the Jamaican McPherson. But the performance of Shaunae Miller-Uibo is spectacular, 51.10 of pure morning jogging.

Joshua’s law, ten kilometers as a ruler – The gold of the 10,000 meters ends at the neck of Joshua Cheptegei, the world champion of Doha 2019 and world record holder of the distance, who redeems the defeat of Tokyo twelve months ago by practically dominating today’s test from the first to the last meter. Beaten, and even off the podium, the Ethiopian Selemon Barega, the Olympic champion from Tokyo, finished fifth after trying, on the last lap, and obviously without success, to overtake Cheptegei on the straight opposite the arrival one. A crazy duel, 250 meters from the finish, which in fact determined the final classification. Silver to Kenyan Stanely Mburu, and bronze to Ugandan Jacob Kiplimo.
