We can see that the latter is not the only one to return: the casting of Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom also marks the return of Patrick Wilson, Nicole Kidman, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, but also Amber Heard and Temuera Morrison. And Willem Dafoe in all this? Absent from the trailer, the actor is not in Aquaman 2 as confirmed by James Wan. The director tells us why.

The actor couldn’t, but also…

In Aquaman, Willem Dafoe plays Nuidis Vulko, the superhero’s mentor. The character is unfortunately not present in the sequel: in an exchange with Entertainment Weekly (via Screen Rant), James Wan explained that the actor’s schedule did not allow him to return as Nuidis Vulko . Sad news for Willem Dafoe fans, but one that should delight Nicole Kidman fans. Indeed, as James Wan explains, the absence of Nuidis Vulko allowed him to further develop the character of Atlanna, Aquaman’s mother.

“Willem is not in the film. Part of the reason was that his schedule didn’t suit us. But what it allowed me to do was develop the role of Atlanna. Atlanna in this one ultimately becomes Arthur’s advisor. Because Arthur is not of this world, she helps him better understand the world and the politics of how things work. »

What is Aquaman 2 about?

Aquaman follows the superhero a few months after the events of the first film: in addition to being king of Atlantis, Arthur Curry is also a more than happy husband and father. But his whole perfect little world comes crashing down when Black Manta returns with a mighty army…and a mighty trident. On the advice of his mother, Aquaman joins forces with his half-brother Orm to find a way to counter Black Manta and prevent him from destroying Atlantis and everything he holds dear.

The trailer promises final epic misadventures for Aquaman. Fans are also hoping for a satisfying conclusion to the DCEU, before finally moving on to James Gunn’s DCU. Can’t wait for December to find out what Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom has in store!
