As “John Wick: Chapter 4” hits theaters in March 2023, fans of Hollywood’s coolest assassin are thinking about the future. Will there be a “John Wick 5?” In the minds of Chad Stahelski and Keanu Reeves, there is no doubt.
John Wick, false farewell?
Everything is going well for the John Wick franchise, whose fourth and for the moment last opus has met with the expected success. Greeted by generally very positive reviews, John Wick: Chapter 4 collected more than $426 million in worldwide box office receiptsalmost $100 million more than John Wick: Parabellumreleased in 2019. A great success, record of the saga, and a logical invitation to continue the adventure.
Issue, John Wick: Chapter 4 ends with the burial of the hero, a priori died of his injuries on the steps of the Sacred Heart. But anything is possible in the movies, and the staging of the final sequence may also suggest that his disappearance is just a ploy to protect him…
Keanu Reeves at attention
Anyway, it seems that Keanu Reeves is asking for a new film that would follow John Wick: Chapter 4. Indeed, Chad Stahelski, director of the saga, explained to the microphone of the podcast “Happy Sad Confused” that the actor was ready to return to service.
Yes, Keanu and I discussed it. If you ask Keanu today: “You want to do “John Wick 5″?”, he would answer: “Oh fuck yes!”. Then he’d think for a second and say, “Okay, but what’s it going to be? I have no idea.” It’s not as if we were going to find the solution in a second. Now, we’ll be working on our other projects for a little while, but if an idea comes to me while I’m driving or walking the dog, within thirty seconds I’ll be on the phone with Keanu and we’ll get started.
According to Chad Stahelski, it therefore seems understood that a new film is in everyone’s head. Only two – important – points remain to be settled: find the right story and the right transition with John Wick: Chapter 4, and especially to define a schedule. Soon, the universe will be enriched in 2024 from the spin-off Ballerina with Ana de Armas in the title role, and the series The Continentl, which will focus on Winston’s youth.
