Johnny Depp made a surprise appearance on Sunday May 29 on stage at Jeff Beck’s concert in Sheffield, England.

Fresh from the libel trial (which made him the protagonist of the tabloids in recent weeks), the actor amazed everyone by appearing on the stage of the legendary British guitarist and singer, a great friend of Depp as well as his collaborator.

In fact, the star of “Pirates of the Caribbean” is not only an actor but also a gifted guitarist. He joined Beck to perform their 2020 song “Isolation,” a remake of John Lennon’s 1970 hit.

They also played two other covers, one by Marvin Gaye and one by Jimi Hendrix (respectively “What’s Going On” and “Little Wing”).

Several videos that have emerged online testify to this, in which Jeff Beck and Johnny Depp are seen (and heard) together making sparks on stage.
In addition to his film career, Depp is a renowned guitarist, member of the band Hollywood Vampires (in which he plays with Alice Cooper and Joe Perry).

The duet between Depp and Beck remaking “Isolation” was recorded in 2019 and a year later, in April 2020, was presented to the public. A non-random date, as those directly involved declared at the time: “We have decided that now is the right time to let you listen to it”. “Isolation” talks about loneliness, fear, difficulty, referring to the feelings experienced by Lennon at the end of his “love story” with the Beatles but which incredibly convincingly represents the feelings of the whole world experienced in the pandemic.

“We didn’t expect to release it so soon, but given the tough times and real ‘isolation’ people are facing right now, we decided now would be the right time for you to hear it. You’ll be hearing more from Johnny and me in a bit, but in the meantime we hope you find comfort and sympathy in our take on the Lennon classic,” Jeff Beck wrote on April 16, 2020, sharing a video on Instagram in which he hears “ Isolation” made by him and his friend.

Kate Moss to testify in the trial of Johnny Depp and Amber Heard

This musical cameo comes two days after closing arguments from Johnny Depp’s and Amber Heard’s lawyers. The respective lawyers were behind the scenes of the libel trial that the actor filed against his ex-wife, a trial in which the defendants are the main protagonists.

This highly publicized trial concluded on Friday 27 May. By “concluded” we mean the active part of depositions and legal arguments, since the sentence is yet to come: the jury’s deliberations will in fact continue this week as well.

Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, Amber Heard: “My role scaled down”

Johnny Depp’s sighting on Jeff Beck’s stage therefore comes just forty-eight hours after the conclusion of the presentation of the lawyers’ arguments in the $50 million defamation case against Amber Heard.

Depp is suing his ex-wife over an op-ed she wrote for the Washington Post in December 2018. In that article, the star was not named but his ex-wife said she was a victim of domestic violence. Johnny Depp claimed that editorial cost him his career, and now he’s trying to prove that what Heard said is not true.

While she never mentioned her ex, omitting his name, the lawsuit claims it all “rests on the central premise that Ms Heard was a victim of domestic abuse and that Mr Depp perpetrated domestic violence against her.”

Johnny Depp categorically denies that he ever abused his wife. The trial was held in Fairfax, Virginia. It began on April 11 and is drawing to a close: closing arguments by the respective lawyers of the parties involved were held on Friday, May 27, and the trial will continue this week with jury deliberations.

A “rock” break to the trial affair

Depp-Heard, the jury will meet again next Tuesday

While waiting for the final verdict, Johnny Depp wanted to take a break to have fun. And for him, as his fans well know, there is no better entertainment than rock!

As noted by Virgin Radio“on stage the rocker and actor appeared serene, smiling and completely in harmony with the rest of the band, all underlined by a beautiful performance on guitar and in front of the microphone”.
