Kaia Gerber, when fashion is written in the DNA

With its latest appearance at the Cannes Film Festival stole the show from her boyfriend Austin Butlernew Elvis in the biopic dedicated to the king of rock’n roll, climbing the Montée des marches in a red silk dress created especially for her, as befits a muse, from Hedi Slimane for Celine (see MFF May 26, 2022). Beautiful, very in love and extremely at ease in front of the flashes of photographers and the amazement of those who, once again, thought they had gone back to those nineties whose mother Cindy Crawford was the absolute protagonist. But Kaia Gerber is much more than a daughter of art. If the couture genes and an absolutely natural dizzying beauty have proved to be undoubted passes, the rest is all thanks to a girl who in a few years has collected covers, catwalks and adv campaigns in spite of her young age and conquering everyone’s attention. .

Strengthened by a family that has always supported her, a healthy bearer of a pure sense of style, net of the resemblance to her mother whom Kaia loves to exasperate by re-reading her iconic looks to give life to highly anticipated #tb moments, very jealous of her private life of whose daily moments to the delight of her more than 8 million followers, the girl doesn’t miss a beat. And not even a boyfriend, she would say, returning to the French red carpet that was illuminated by what, in effect, is a candidate to become the new golden couple of the millennium.

Californian from Los Angeles, Kaia, two years younger than her brother Presley, was born in 2001 from the love between Cindy Crawford and the entrepreneur Rande Gerber. The cultural, ethnic and religious melting pot on the one hand and the familiarity with a certain dose of celebrities on the other, gave the child the opportunity to freely express her artistic inclinations in the theatrical productions put together in that Malibu high schoola few steps from Zuma beach, where the children carried surfboards to class as if they were in a song by Beach boys. She wanted to become an actress, Kaia, and her frequentation with the Hollywood stars who were at home with her convinced her that she was right. It was the adv campaign for Young Versacethe same one that pushed Donatella Versace to affirm that Kaia was special and that she shared the same love affair with her mother with the goal. But her golden year was undoubtedly 2018 when, accompanied by the planetary fame amplified by the numerous covers that saw her protagonist, Vogue and his different editions above all, he presented himself at the age of sixteen at the court of Karl Lagerfeld. Who first chose her as a model for the campaign of the bag collection by Chanel, photographed by himself in Mademoiselle’s Parisian apartments. Later as co-designer of the capsule collection of prêt-à-porter and accessories Karl Lagerfeld X Kaia, in a highly stylish divertissement that combined the iconic Lagerfeld garments with the casual radiance of the girl. A respectable milestone for a teenager still busy with school books (which she attended online) and who had just been crowned as model of the year at British fashion awards. The latter chose her as a beauty icon for her new make-up line YSL Beauté (2019), a model of beauty and at the same time self-respect for the message that Kaia carried with her. That she spoke of positivity and kindness, towards oneself and others, and that inevitably she passed through the care of the physical aspect and a look focused on the world which, net of eyeliner, was always ready to grasp the better.

Aware of her own luck and absolute it girl in the dream team of the most beautiful and desired girls in the world, Kaia in 2021 joined the family of American horror storymulti-acclaimed license plate series Disney (see MFF of 24 March 2021), news accompanied by all the enthusiasm of a girl (“if I’m dreaming don’t wake me”) that success could not change.
