“Kommersant” writes about the business repercussions of the crisis on the border

“Russian business is concerned about the problems with the transport of goods from the EU through Belarus, related to the migration crisis on the border with Poland, and warned the authorities that the delays in deliveries could be felt by consumers in Russia” – writes “Kommersant” on Monday.

According to the journal, a 25 km long traffic jam has formed at the crossing in Bobrowniki. These disruptions “threaten Russian consumers with problems with the supply of goods, including basic necessities. Big retail chains are already suffering delays and suppliers warn about the risk of price increases.”

About 10 percent of people cross the Polish-Belarusian border. Russian imports. This includes food products and basic necessities – medical devices and raw materials.

Letter to the deputy prime minister

The situation is so serious that representatives of the Advisory Council for Foreign Investments wrote to Russia’s deputy prime minister Andrei Belousov. The council includes, among others concerns: Danone, Metro, PepsiCo, Sanofi, Coca-Cola and Unilever. These companies indicate that the crossing time has increased to 80 hours, and that one day of waiting for each car will cost at least 500 euros.

The authors of the letter asked the authorities to prepare an increase in the scale of transport across the border between Russia and Latvia, but note that traffic jams have started to form on this route as well.

Crisis on the border

For several weeks now, groups of migrants have been wandering at the Polish-Belarusian border, incl. from the Middle East, who, with the support of Belarusian services, are making attempts to enter Poland illegally. There are attacks on Polish officials. Recently, the camp in Kuźnica was closed, but there are reports of plans to move the immigrants to another place.
