Lauren Ash joins the cast of the ABC comedy

The actress joins the protagonist Gina Rodriguez and the previously announced Hannah Simone.

Deadline let it be known that the former star of Superstore Lauren Ash signed to fill a regular role in Not Dead Yetthe new ABC comedy that bears the signature of the writers Casey Johnson And David Windsor and sees as the protagonist Gina Rodriguez (Jane the Virgin). The series will arrive on TV in the first half of 2023.

The plot of Not Dead Yet and the role of Lauren Ash

Based on Alexandra Potter’s 2020 book Confessions of a Forty-Something F ** k Up, Not Dead Yet revolves around Nell Stevens (Rodriguez), a woman who, recently returned single, broke, and feeling old and a real disaster on the threshold of 40 years, tries to roll up her sleeves to take back her life and career it was left behind 10 years ago. Once a successful journalist, Nell had ditched everything to help her boyfriend get her restaurant off the ground. After their breakup, she can’t help but accept the one job she managed to get – writing obituaries – which at first seems like a step backwards but ultimately may be exactly what she needs to move forward.

Lauren Ash – who in the six seasons of Superstore she played Dina Fox, a fan favorite – here she will play Lexi, the daughter of a wealthy newspaper owner recently appointed editor. Lexi grew up in a rarefied world of boarding schools and private planes and is literally out of the world that normal people live in. A former equestrian champion who has almost made it to the Olympics, Lexi looks very confident. But the truth is, she is in trouble and if the newspaper fails, she will never get her father’s approval, something she desperately wants.

Not Dead Yet will be a workplace comedy

All time Deadline informs us that, unlike the direction that the pilot episode shown at the top of ABC had taken, now the authors are building Not Dead Yet more like a comedy in the workplace rather than a comedy focused on friendship between women. In this sense, the engagement of Hannah Simone, announced just a few days ago, who will play Nell’s colleague Sam, who is the head of the newspaper’s Life & Style section, a working mom and a former bad girl. The rest of the regular cast includes Joshua Banday, Angela Gibbs And Rick Glassman.
