NBA legend LeBron James praised Frenchwoman Marine Johannes’ performance during Game 1 of the WNBA Finals on Sunday.
LeBron James stood up for a French woman. The Los Angeles Lakers star posted a message on the social network on Monday to salute the great performance of New York Liberty player Marin Johannes (28) during Game 1 of the WNBA Finals against the Las Vegas Aces on Sunday. So far little used during the playoffs, the guard took advantage of a little more playing time (20 minutes) to shine with 14 points, including four impressive three-point shots.
“He has a cannon (instead of hands)!”
At the same time, LeBron James present in the stand especially appreciated it. The leading scorer in NBA history reacted to his compilation of four long-range baskets on social media.
LeBron said on X, “He’s got a cannon (instead of hands)! His first shot on one leg made me jump out of my seat.”
The French woman responded with several emojis this Tuesday morning, reflecting her reaction that was both embarrassed and flattered. James took part in a meeting with several Lakers players ahead of Tuesday’s pre-season game against Brooklyn in the “City of Vice.” According to some American media, his heart was more inclined towards the Aces team which features the season’s best defender A’ja Wilson, whom he nicknames his “little sister”.
So this did not stop him from appreciating Marine Johannes’s performance, even though she remained silent in the second half. The Aces finally won (99-82) before the second match on Wednesday.
The French international (108 caps) joined the WNBA and the New York franchise in 2019, while remaining linked to ASVEL, with whom she won the EuroCup last April.
