The Europa League group stage is coming to an end. After a great start to the European competition and two wins in a row, Legia was brutally brought to the ground. First, she lost to Napoli twice (0: 3, 1: 4), and on Thursday she definitely lost to Leicester 1: 3.
The English were already in the lead with two goals after 21 minutes and hits from Patson Daki and James Maddison. In the 25th minute, Filip Mladenović scored a contact goal, but after eight minutes Brendan Rodgers’ team scored another goal. This time N’Didi used the corner kick.
Europa League. Legia is losing to Leicester. The Polish champions drop to fourth place in the table
The third defeat in a row made the situation of Legia Warszawa much more difficult in the group C table, especially that in the first game of the fifth round, Spartak Moscow unexpectedly won 2: 1 against Napoli. Currently, the Polish champions are fourth with six points, despite the fact that they were in second position before the queue started. Leicester is the new leader with eight points on their account, right behind the English team are Spartak and Napoli (both teams have seven points, but Spartak is higher because the direct matches decide the order in the table).
Thursday’s defeat did not affect Legia Warszawa’s chances of advancing to the knockout stage of LE. In the last round, Marek Gołębiewski’s team will play with Spartak Moskwa at home. If the Warsaw club wins against the Russians, he can be sure of at least second place in group C, regardless of the final result of the Napoli-Leicester match. Unfortunately, the draw in the match with Spartak will not give the team a promotion to the third place in the table, which would have resulted in a game in the knockout phase of the European Conference League.
