Leica has announced its second smartphone officially sold under its own brand: it is the Leitz Phone 2. Let’s say right away that this appears to be once again a renamed version of a recently released Sharp model namely theAquos R7. There are still some differences, especially in the design, but they have with a similar hardware platform. Obviously, theinterface more in Leica style.
Leitz Phone 2: technical characteristics
The hardware platform has already been seen, as mentioned. It is based on a SoC Snapdragon 8 Gen 1flanked by 12 GB of RAM. The Leica Leitz Phone 2 is therefore well equipped and 512 GB of internal flash memory offer just the right space to save the many photos that are expected to be taken, but Not a microSD card slot is available.
In the front here is it 6.6 OLED screen“with a resolution of 2,730 × 1,260 pixels, which uses the technology IGZO by Sharp. On the back we have a camera equipped with the “largest sensor for a smartphone”, as Leica points out. It is a Sony 1 inch with a 47.2-megapixel resolution and an F / 1.9 aperture, while a 13-megapixel sensor with autofocus is dedicated to capturing selfies.
Sony’s main sensor is most likely the same one already seen on the Xiaomi 12S Ultra. As you can guess, there are no other sensors than the main one. The manufacturer claims that a camera is sufficient, if this is a Leica …
For the Leitz Phone 2, Leica has heavily modified the software around the camera so that the device provides images with the characteristics of the manufacturer’s expensive premium cameras. By the way, there are various filters and even a special widget that shows “the golden hour“, where photographers particularly like to work for position of the sunin order to get captivating shots.
Leica Leitz Phone 2 is waterproof according to certification IP68and a cover to cover the sensor when not using the camera.
The Leitz Phone 2 has a very unusual design, even in the era when iPhones brought flat-edge phones back to the market. It not only has straight edges, but also sharp edges, being practically parallelepiped in shape.
