Friday saw the latest installment of the American Film Institute’s annual luncheon, perhaps the most relaxing event in a busy awards season this year at the Four Seasons Hotel in Beverly Hills.

As usual, the event, which has been described in years past as “no envelopes, no speeches, no sweat,” attracted some of Hollywood’s biggest names in attendance, quietly honoring the top 10 movies and TV shows of the past year.

With the awards all handed out, the stars and creators in attendance had nothing to do but relax, enjoy a good meal and network for a few hours – and watch carefully crafted clips from the projects that did a great job of explaining their whys We were honored right from the start.

This year, AFI’s top ten movies are – now, try to sound surprised – American Novel, Barbie, The Keeper, Killers of the Flower Moon, The Master, May 12 Moon,” “Oppenheimer,” “Previous Life,” “Poor Thing” and “Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse.”

The TV winners, meanwhile, were a slew of TV’s best, including “Abbott Elementary,” “The Bear,” “Beef,” “Jury Duty,” “The Last of Us,” “The Morning Show,” Only Murder in the Building,” “Poker Face,” “Keep the Dog” and “Succession.”
