A little less than a month after your departure from PSG, Leonardo opened up about the period in which he worked as sporting director for the French club. In an interview with “L’Équipe”, the Brazilian lamented the defeat to Real Madrid in the round of 16 of the Champions League and talked about what he believes went wrong in the process.
– There were glitches in the day to day too. When three talented youngsters arrive, like Hakimi, Nuno Mendes and Donnarumma, Ramos, Wijnaldum and Messi, and you say: “What is this?”. So, you lose in the round of 16 of the Champions League and they say: “It sucks, the management, the group…”. It is also true that there were moments of tiredness. There are times when you need to intervene and the influence is not good. But still, in the end, we signed Messi.
The manager treated the signing of the Argentine as a title for PSG, although the shirt 30 did not have a great season with the French club.
– No (I expected to sign Messi). We had thought and talked about it, but Messi never thought about leaving (Barcelona). The last moments before his arrival were decisive. I got Messi’s only transfer in his career. Messi, there is nothing more than that. Chronologically is Pele, Maradona and Messi. He’s on Olympus. When I take stock of my three years, I see a Champions League final, a semi-final, seven national trophies and Messi.
After Leonardo’s departure from Paris Saint-Germain, the French club signed Luis Campos, former manager of Monaco and Lille. The Brazilian, free on the market, is in talks with Valencia and could head to Spanish football next season.
