The end of the year is a period of increased shopping before Christmas. For shops it is a harvest, for their employees even more work than usual. Retail chains offer them special extras and bonuses. This year, however, employees of Lidl will not benefit from them, but this time they will only receive an allowance for the opening of the 800th branch – Business Insider Polska learned. How is it in other networks?
Lidl so far in recent years for Christmas handed out to employees gift penalties worth PLN 400. As we have established unofficially, they will not be available this year. Employees will get PLN 800 to spend in Lidl stores (using coupons in the Lidl Plus app). However, it really is This is not a typical Christmas bonus, but it is related to the opening of the 800th Lidl store in Poland which, as the network’s press office has confirmed, is to take place this year.
Previously, on the occasion of the opening of 600 outlets, employees received an allowance of PLN 600, and on the occasion of the opening of 700 outlets – PLN 700 (this took place in October 2019). Now, the bonus related to winning the next hundred stores will replace the de facto Christmas bonus. Not all employees are satisfied with it.
Lidl did not contradict our information, but does not explain why the decision about the lack of a typical pre-Christmas benefit comes from. In an extensive response, the company’s press office emphasizes that “Lidl Polska is constantly taking steps to increase the comfort of working on the Internet“, calculating that it offers wages higher than the average in the industry, as well as numerous non-wage benefits (such as private medical care, group insurance, Multisport card, training and a layette” for a baby “and a first-grader, free Employee Support Program).
– We were one of the first retail chains to introduce bonus for work on Sundays for employees of shops and warehouses, regardless of the number of full-time jobs and length of service. The total cost of the allowance paid from October to February will be over PLN 7 million, according to the Lidl press office (the allowance is to be paid until the stores are closed on Sundays due to the closing of the trade ban).

Christmas accessories in other retail chains
We checked how Christmas bonuses for employees look like in other networks.
Employees of stores and online sales in the Auchan chain will receive vouchers worth PLN 700. – The amount of vouchers granted is 40 percent. higher than last year – says Business Insider Polska Dorota Patejko, communication and CSR director at Auchan Retail Polska.

Additionally, there will also be Christmas packages for Auchan employees and their children.
– In accordance with the accepted practice, each employee of Kaufland on the occasion of Christmas will receive both a prepaid card to be used in the stores of our network and a package with groceries – Maja Szewczyk, director of the corporate communication department at Kaufland Polska tells us. It does not disclose what values the cards will be passed on to network employees.
– In line with the long-standing tradition of the Biedronka chain This year’s Christmas parcels will go to 77 thousand. of our employees and 75 thousand. children. Employees will receive elegant cabin suitcases filled with, among others sets of towels, beauticians and sweets – tells us Agnieszka Sokołowska, director of internal communication and social responsibility in the Biedronka network. In turn, the packages for children of employees will include, among others puzzles, books, games or sweets.
– Well-known pre-paid cards, issued to Biedronka employees and functioning in the network for several years, will be replaced with a new solution – they will be implemented in the form of e-code replenishment – says Sokołowska. The amount of top-ups is not known yet, but it is known that it will depend on the employees’ income (last year, prepaid cards for the amount of PLN 1,000 were distributed).
Carrefour is to reveal the offer of this year’s bonuses next week. Every year, the chain distributes gift cards to its employees to its stores. Vouchers are combined with a permanent discount on purchases of up to 10%.
The net will give employees top-ups for Sodexo cards before Christmas. – They are awarded to all employees employed under a contract of employment, regardless of the position they occupy, and the amount of the top-up amounting to a maximum of PLN 500 results, inter alia, from from the level of salaries. This means that the highest-value replenishment goes to employees with lower remuneration – tells us Patrycja Kamińska, PR manager of Netto in Poland. In December 2020, the network allocated PLN 1.6 million for this purpose. The Netto Christmas bonus will also include packages for employees’ children.

How much can you earn as a cashier and salesperson?
How high wages can trade workers expect on a daily basis? Lidl is at the forefront of the network in terms of remuneration. The employees of this discount network earn monthly from PLN 3,550 gross to PLN 4,350 gross at the beginning of employment. This means that they get from PLN 2,590 to PLN 3,155 on hand. After one year of work, the company guarantees an increase in remuneration to the level from PLN 3 650 to PLN 4 550 gross (PLN 2 661 – PLN 3 296 net), and after two years of work experience from PLN 3 900 to PLN 4 800 gross (PLN 2 837 – 3). IN Biedronka network Beginners, employed full-time as a salesman-cashier, receive – depending on the location – from PLN 3,250 to PLN 3,600 gross per month (from PLN 2,380 to PLN 2,630 per hand), including the presence award. Cashier sellers with three years of experience in Biedronka can, in turn, count on monthly amounts between PLN 3,400 and PLN 3850 gross (PLN 2,490 – PLN 2,800 net).
IN Kaufland monthly remuneration for the position of a cashier-salesman, depending on the length of service and location, is up to PLN 4100 gross (about PLN 2,980 net). It should be added that this rate already includes PLN 500 incentive bonus for 100%. attendance at work.
Auchan offers all employees a base salary, a monthly bonus and the resulting quarterly bonus. The monthly salary of a customer support employee ranges from PLN 3,500 to PLN 4,000 gross per month, depending on the commitment to customer service at the cash registers and / or the online customer.
IN Net the salary of a store employee, taking into account the absenteeism bonus, ranges from PLN 3,200 to PLN 3,900 gross per month (from PLN 2,344 to PLN 2,837 per hand) in the first year of employment. After one year of work, and then three and five years, a store employee is entitled to an internship allowance.
