As L’Info Tout Court celebrates its 10th anniversary, we thought it appropriate to share with you everything that has marked us over the past decade, leaving the choice to those who make the site every day. Condensing a decade of manga and music into just 10 short highlights? Risky bet, but a successful bet because 10 years is worth celebrating! If Taylor Swift, Phil Collins Or Dragon Ball have the honor of appearing in this summary, we obviously do not forget the other personalities and works who have marked the news since 2013.
2013 – Artpop takes over the stores
On November 8, 2013 in France, Lady Gaga offers his fans his fourth studio album. Carried by the singles Applause, Do What You Want Or GUY., the opus however fails to seduce. The press was relatively critical and sales were timid. For good reason, his previous albums The Fame Monster And Born This Way had accustomed his fans to more political or intimate speeches… However, once the water had flowed under the bridges, Artpop today tends to be perceived as a good album that was unfortunately unloved upon its release.
2014 – Sayonara Naruto
On November 10, 2014, the last chapter of Naruto is pre-published in Japan, in the Weekly Shōnen Jump. This shonen written and drawn by Masashi Kishimoto was thus concluded after 720 chapters, or approximately 15 years of publication. Today, Naruto always peaks in the top of the best-selling manga, with more than 250 million copies sold around the world. Although the work is finished, it continues to live on thanks to the support of its fans. This year it celebrates the twentieth anniversary of its animated adaptation. Among the celebrations, Masashi Kishimoto wrote and drew a one shot titled Naruto Gaiden: Madness at the Heart of the Whirlpool.
2015 – Hello, it’s me
At the end of October 2015, the singer Adele creates an event by releasing the first single from his new album 25, after three years of radio silence. Soberly titled Hello and directed by Canadian filmmaker Xavier Dolanthis clip breaks audience records on Youtube. Adele then dethrones Taylor Swift in the category of clips having accumulated the most views in the 24 hours following their posting online. The album, released on November 20, is in keeping with its tradition, selling more than 20 million copies. Adele wins for this opus the Grammy Award 2017 Album of the Year. The singer, still active, is currently in residence at Las Vegas.
2016 – The Children’s Farm
August 2016, the first chapter of shonen The Promised Neverland is prepublished in the Weekly Shōnen Jump in Japan. This manga written by Kaiu Shirai and drawn by Posuka Demiru immediately creates a stir. For good reason, the main trio Ray, Norman and Emma accompanied by their friends are part of a children’s farm. In other words, they are raised to feed demons once they reach maturity. This manga is gripping because of its reflection on our way of eating based on intensive breeding through its brutal narration and its incisive drawings. The Promised Neverland concluded in 20 volumes and is published in France by Crunchyroll manga (formerly Kazé). It also benefited from an animated series in two seasons.
2017 – I’ve got the power
On October 8, 2017, the anime Dragon Ball Super reveals Goku’s new form. So in the middle of fighting Jiren during the universe tournament, Goku awakens his uncontrolled ultra instinct mode. This new transformation is generating unprecedented enthusiasm among the manga community. It also helps to forget the chaotic beginnings of Dragon Ball Super, marked by an often criticized animation. While the manga continues its course, the anime Dragon Ball Super has been on indefinite hiatus since 2018.
2019 – In the legend
On April 5, 2019, the group NLP releases his third studio album, titled Two brothers. Supposed to be their last, this opus sees them at the top of their game, cloud rap. He is therefore critically acclaimed thanks to his worked melodies and his often intimate texts. Postponed multiple times due to the pandemic, the accompanying tour was finally able to take place and closed in September 2022. To date, the album has recorded more than 900,000 sales.
2021 – New beginnings
The group Daft Punk composed of Guy-manuel de Homem Christo and of Thomas Bangalterannounces their separation on February 22, 2021. The duo reveals the news via an aptly named video Epilogue. THE Daft Punk thus served as a driving force behind the musical movement of the French Touch, during their 28 years of activity. The group has also been exported internationally thanks to collaborations with renowned artists, such as Gust of Wind in 2014 with Pharrel Williams Or Starboy in 2016 with The Weeknd. Thomas Bangalter has since embarked on a solo career; he has already composed the soundtrack for the next film by Quentin Dupieux, Daaaaaali.
For his part, Taylor Swift announces that she will take back the reins of her music in April 2021. In fact, the singer did not own the rights, nor did she have control over the royalties of his first six albums released between 2005 and 2018. In fact, this total dispossession represented a significant shortfall for the artist. To get what she feels she is owed, Taylor Swift returns to the studio to reinterpret all his songs, this time under his new label. The re-recording of his albums is still in progress; 1989 Taylor’s Version is scheduled for October 27, 2023. Afterwards, all that will be missing is Reputation originally released in 2017, and everything that belonged to Caesar will have been returned to Caesar.
2022 – No more night
English singer and drummer Phil Collins announces his retirement from the stage on March 26, 2022. The news comes following a performance of Genesis, of which he has been a part since 1967, at The O2 Arena in London. In almost fifty years of career Phil Collins carried essential titles in group like Invisible Touch Or Land of Confusionas well as solo (In the Air Tonight, Another Day in Paradise, …). We could also hear it in the cinema, notably in the cartoon Tarzan whose songs he performs. Phil Collins can today boast of having sold nearly 150 million records worldwide.
2023 – Boruto next level
Boruto followed this year in the footsteps of his noble father Naruto. Like his old man, Boruto went on hiatus in mid-May to prepare for his time off. Masashi Kishimotoits screenwriter, and Ukio Kodaichi, its designer, had four months to concoct the continuation of the adventures of the new generation of ninjas. At the end of August, readers were able to discover Boruto – Two Blue Vortex, the first chapter of this sequel. It relates the events taking place 3 years after Boruto was chased out of Konoha Village. The characters are now 16 years old, while the confrontation outlined in the first chapter of Boruto (2017) is inexorably getting closer.
