Lionel Messi or Cristiano Ronaldo? Mbappé’s humorous response

The Frenchman plays alongside the Argentine legend, while his childhood hero was the Manchester United forward

Nominated among 30 nominees for the Ballon d’Or award, Paris Saint-Germain forward Kylian Mbappé insists he cannot choose between Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi, although he has the Portuguese striker as his idol.

The French forward currently plays in a powerful attacking lineup for PSG. The team has an attack with him, Neymar and Messi, but Mbappé has been very clear about his admiration for Ronaldo as a child.

Together, Messi and Ronaldo have 12 Ballons d’Or and for many it is almost impossible to separate the two. In 2022, however, the Argentine striker was left out of the final list of France Football magazine, with the Portuguese being among the best.

Asked by France Football magazine, Mbappé struggled not to choose one or the other: “Every year I asked myself who would win the Ballon d’Or, Messi or Cristiano. Who do I prefer? It’s like choosing between your father or your mother, you can’t. “

“For all of my generation, the Ballon d’Or is inevitably associated with the battle between Leo and Cristiano. Digging deep into my memory, I also remember a little bit of Ronaldinho (winner of the Ballon d’Or in 2005).”

“But frankly, it’s all won by the greedy two! They’ve shared the prize for so long. Every year, like everyone else, I’ve wondered which one of them would win. Looking back, this battle was pretty crazy.”

“On ceremony days, it was fun to see them when they were next to each other. And to try to find out from their faces which one of them looked more angry or upset because they knew they wouldn’t win,” Mbappé said.

Now, it remains for Mbappé to wait for the award result to be announced on October 17, in Paris.
