It seems like yesterday, when we saw a series of remarkable moments on the stages of this year’s Lollapalooza Brasil. After almost 5 months of the 2022 edition, which was supposed to be in 2020, the festival is already starting preparations for 2023.
This Thursday (04/08), the new dates were announced: March 24, 25 and 26, at the Interlagos circuit. In 2023, the festival completes 10 years of its first edition in Brazil.
‘ It is very gratifying to be able to celebrate the tenth edition of Lollapalooza Brasil after a period of so many challenges’, comments Francesca Brown Alterio, director of marketing and festivals at Time For Fun. ‘Without a doubt, we are heading towards another historic edition’, she adds.
This year, the Brazilian public enjoyed emblematic shows by artists such as Miley CyrusAlok, Emicida, The Strokes, A$ap Rocky, Doja Cat, Machine Gun Kelly, as well as a tribute to Taylor Hawkins, drummer for Foo Fighters, who died two days before performing with the band on the last day of the event.
Lollapalooza debuts in Asia with an edition in India
O Lollapalooza It emerged as an alternative and itinerant festival around the mid-1990s. Almost 30 years after its emergence, the traveling soul is still alive within the event, which is packed with bags to make its presence felt in yet another country. Or rather, in another continent: Asia.
Mumbai, inindia, will be the stage for the first Lolla in Asian territory, next year, on the 28th and 29th of January. The decision to take the festival to a new continent was motivated by the effervescent music scene in India, the second most populous country in the world – after China – and with high public demand, considered ‘underserved’ by artists from the Europe-States axis. BookMyShow, India’s largest ticketing platform, is promoting and co-producing Lollapalooza India together with global producers Perry Farrell WME and C3 Presents, owned by Live Nation.
The festival’s edition in Mumbai, which will be held at a location yet to be announced, will feature around 45 national and international musicians, performing 20 hours of music on four different stages for an audience of 60,000 people per day of the event. 60% of the artists announced will be from outside the country, according to information from Billboard.
‘We usually look for places that aren’t already crowded with large-scale, multi-day, multi-genre festivals,’ said entrepreneur Charlie Walker of C3 Presents, the company behind Lolla. ‘If you look at the musical appetite in India in [termos] of streaming consumption, you quickly realize that it is poorly served live’added the manager.
In all, Lollapalooza takes place, in addition to the United States, in the following countries: Chile, Brazil, Argentina, Germany, France and Sweden. The Indian version line-up is expected to be announced in August.
