In Portugal, most of the difficulties are in the districts of Guarda and Castelo Branco, located on the north-eastern border with Spain, where snow has been falling since Sunday afternoon.
Most impassable roads were recorded on Monday in the Serra da Estrela mountain range, near the Spanish border, where snow is expected to fall at least until Tuesday afternoon.
In turn, as assessed by the Spanish Main Road Traffic Directorate (DGT), the most impassable roads due to snowfall are found in Cantabria, Asturias, Castile and Leon, and also in Galicia.
According to the DGT report, several roads were closed for traffic in Catalonia on Monday morning due to heavy ice on the surface.
According to meteorologists, the situation on Spanish roads may deteriorate in the coming hours. By Monday afternoon, 11 out of Spain’s 17 Autonomous Communities had issued an alert about the upcoming snowfall and a significant drop in air temperature.
