Louis Garrel was very stressed alongside Florence Pugh and Timothée Chalamet

Before directing “Barbie”, Greta Gerwig directed a large casting for “The Daughters of Doctor March”. Among the actors present, Saoirse Ronan, Florence Pugh and Timothée Chalamet greatly impressed Louis Garrel, who also appears in the feature film.

Louis Garrel, the French at Greta Gerwig

Louis Garrel has quite an impressive career. From 2003, he was part of the beautiful cast of The Dreamers by Bernardo Bertolucci alongside Michael Pitt and Eva Green. In 2006, he won the César for best male hope for The Regular Lovers and has since toured with Bertrand Bonello, Maïwenn, Michel Hazanavicius and Christophe Honoré. Yet even an actor as talented as him can feel inferior to others.

This is what he revealed in an interview given to The Independentin which he returns in particular to his role in The Daughters of Doctor March (2019) by Greta Gerwig. In it, Louis Garrel plays Friedrich Bhaer, a professor who falls in love with Josephine (Saoirse Ronan) during her stay in New York.

In addition to Saoirse Ronanthe cast of the second solo film of the director of Barbie (2023) consists in particular of Florence Pugh and Timothée Chalamet. We could also mention Emma Watson, Eliza Scanlen, Laura Dern and Meryl Streep, but these are obviously the first three performers mentioned who have impressed Louis Garrel.

Impressed by Saoirse Ronan, Florence Pugh and Timothée Chalamet

In this interview, Louis Garrel first describes himself as “the most anxious Frenchman” And “a scared guy“. From then on, facing Saoirse Ronan, Florence Pugh and Timothée Chalamet, the actor felt extremely stressed, believing that his colleagues were much better than him.

I was very stressed because I knew that all the actors were better than me. Obviously, Florence (Pugh), Saoirse (Ronan), Timothée (Chalamet). I think you know very early on – from the first or second day of shooting – if you’re going to be good or not.

Even if according to us Louis Garrel has nothing to envy to these interpreters, the latter grew up even more in Hollywood after Greta Gerwig’s film. Especially Florence Pugh with Don’t Worry Darling (2022) and Timothée Chalamet with Dunes (2021). Both are going to end up in Dunes 2 scheduled for 2024. For his part, Louis Garrel chained the shootings, realizing the excellent The Innocent (2022) and embodying Louis XIII In The Three Musketeers: D’Artagnan (2023) and its sequel Milady (2023).
