Makar will be on the cover of NHL 24

Hold Makar will be on the cover of EA Sports’ NHL 24 video game, it was announced Monday.

EA Sports made the official announcement on Twitter. The full reveal of the game will be done on Wednesday.

The Colorado Avalanche defenseman won the Stanley Cup in 2022, the same season he won the Norris Trophy, awarded to the NHL’s top defenseman, and the Conn-Smythe Trophy, as most valuable player in his team in the playoffs.

Makar is only the fifth defender in history to be the face of the video game. He is the first since PK Subban in 2019. Dion Phaneuf (2009), Chris Pronger (2000) and Scott Stevens (1996) are the others.

He is also the first member of the Avalanche to be featured in the game since Peter Forsberg in 1998.

Last season, the Anaheim Ducks forward Trevor Zegras and Canadian forward Sarah Nurse were on the game’s cover. Zegras was the first Ducks player to be on the game’s cover, while Nurse was the first female.

The release date for NHL 24 has yet to be announced.
