Marcin Budkowski at the beginning of 2021 was appointed the new executive director of the Alpine F1 Team. The 44-year-old has been working in the Renault team since 2018, which in the last season of Formula 1 competed under the Alpine brand. Now the official F1 service has announced that the Polish engineer is leaving the team.
Budkowski started his professional adventure with Formula 1 in 2001 as an aerodynamicist at Prost GP. He then spent the next five years at Maranello in the legendary Ferrari team, with whom he celebrated many successes in the queen of motorsport. He later moved to McLaren, where he had the opportunity to work in various positions both in the factory and on the track. In 2012, he became the head of aerodynamics there, which he held until 2014.
He later joined the ranks of the FIA, where he initially became F1 Technical and Sport Coordinator, and in 2017 he headed the F1 technical department. From 2018 he was in the ranks of Renault, where he served as executive director and was the “right hand” of the managing director. In January last year, he formally took the position of Executive Director of the Alpine F1 Team, because under this brand in F1 we watched the Renault team in recent months.
Within the Alpine team, this was another change in one of the key positions at the beginning of the year. Cyril Abiteboul, CEO, said goodbye to Alpine a year ago.
