Margot Robbie he then told the microphones of AND! of a totally improvised scene, which she particularly cared about: that of kiss between her character, Nellie, and Jack, played by Brad Pitt. In fact, the star confided that she had absolutely no intention of missing out on a more unique than rare opportunity, or kissing her charming colleague:

It wasn’t in the script. But I thought: When else will I get the chance to kiss Brad Pitt? I’ll try.

Damien Chazelle, director of the film, then tried to cut the shot from the final minutes, but Margot Robbie convinced him that – after all – that scene was central to the development of the story:

I said, ‘Damien, I think Nellie would have kissed Jack’ and he was like, ‘Well, she could… wait, wait. You just want to kiss Brad Pitt.’ “Then report me. This may be my only chance.” But then he admitted it worked for the character, and so the kiss stuck.

Babylon is a lavish and visually exaggerated tale, an epic that shows the excesses of 1920s Los Angeles through the fall and rise of numerous characters, driven by unbridled and excessive ambitions. In the United States it will be in cinemas from December 23, 2023 and could therefore lead the young director to win the Oscars – again – after the six victories obtained with La la land. In the cast, alongside Margot Robbie – who replaced Emma Stone, who became pregnant before filming began – and Brad Pitt, then there are Diego Calva, Olivia Wilde, Jean Smart, Tobey Maguire and Samara Weaving. The film was received mixed by critics, who praised or otherwise panned the film without half measures. For its protagonist Margot Robbie however, it sanctioned the epilogue of a golden period, in which he took part in numerous projects, including Amsterdam by David O. Russell, The Suicide Squad – Suicide missionin which she reprized her role as the anti-hero Harley Quinn, and Asteroid City, Wes Anderson’s latest effort.
