Of the Maserati GranTurismo Folgore we have already spoken on several occasions. But after the first “mechanical” advances revealed by the House during the presentation of the MC20now the time has come to see other details of how the new Made in Modena electric powertrain will be under the skin, which will also equip – with a specific configuration – the Grecale Folgore. For now, there are no confirmations on the autonomy, battery capacity or power of the new current-powered powertrain, but these images – arrived at our editorial staff from an anonymous source – give some more information about the project. As well as the message accompanying the photos: “An electrifying journey to the future. Maserati is ready to become a reference point in every segment of the market. The Maserati Folgore electric range is a new concept of luxury electric performance that the world is to discover”.

1,200 hp, but only theoretical. As is well known, the GranTurismo Folgore will have three engines, one at the front and two at the rear, for a total theoretical power of over 1,200 hp. Theoretical because, in all probability, this number derives from the arithmetic sum of the power of each individual engine. Put simply, the GranTurismo will have this very high potential, but under no conditions the three engines will be able to work together to the maximum, as happens on many electric and hybrid. This is because the batteries are unable to deliver such high peak power. But what is the point of having so many CVs if they are not fully exploited? Simple, to manage torque vectoring more precisely: with this solution, the electronics can squeeze one of the three engines, “spreading” the remaining kW on the other units, thus guaranteeing better cornering performance. The 1,200 horsepower will never be usable, therefore, but there will still be a very high power available to drivers, which could be around 800 horsepower, for a 0-100 km / h in 2.7 seconds and a maximum speed of 320. km / h, as communicated by the manufacturer in recent weeks.

The battery is below: GT or Grecale? As can be seen from the images – some of which were already shown in 2021 at the announcement of the new electric range -, the Folgore range will have a set-up with electronically controlled pneumatic springs, but there remains a doubt about the battery. Previously, the manufacturer described it as “positioned in the central tunnel” on the GranTurismo, but in these images it finds space under the car’s floor, as on most of the latest generation electric cars. It is therefore not certain that what we see in the images is the definitive version of the GT mechanics: it could also be the powertrain (probably twin-engine) of the Grecale Folgore SUV. The capacity of the accumulators, in both cases, should be around 100 kWh, for an estimated range between 300 and 400 km.
