The 2023 US Open men’s final has been decided! This Friday (8th), Daniil Medvedev won his match against Carlos Alcaraz in 3 sets to 1 (7/6, 6/1, 3/6, 6/3).
Now, the Russian will face Novak Djokovic for his second title in New York, while Djoko will try for his fourth title.
The match was spectacular from the beginning. The two players defended their serves well and competed for great points. Medvedev dominated Alcaraz in the tiebreak, ending the first set with a 7-3 tiebreak.
With his confidence boosted, Medvedev dominated the second set and won 6-1, breaking the Spaniard’s serve twice and making the world No. 1 look like an ordinary player at times.
Alcaraz made a comeback in the third set, winning the match 6-3.
Just as things seemed to be headed for a fifth set, the sixth game of the fourth division changed the course of the match. Alcaraz had five chances, but Medvedev survived, breaking the Spaniard’s serve and leading 4-2.
He then held his serve to end the match and secure a spot in the final.
